Ok, so I go home at lunch and Max comes in the house. I go to the bathroom and he jumps up on the back of the toilet. I turn to pet him and notice he has a lump the size of a mouse ball on his ear! Itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s scabbed over and when I go to touch it, the dang thing oozes this putrid looking bloody goo!!! So I flip! I start squeezing this thing to try and clean it out and thereâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s just no end! I finally get it partially cleaned out a notice thereâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s a hole about the diameter of a pen!! First thought, OMG, somebodyâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s shot my cat! So, I call work and tell them I going to be late b/c Max needs to go to the vet! Well, my vet is closed today, so I had to take him to another guy over by work, whoâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s really nice BTW. He looks at him and says that he probably got in a fight or something and punctured that ear and itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s abscessed… So, now Max is on house arrest until this thing clears up, I have to give him Clavamox every 12 hours and I have to squeeze this thing out ever so often to keep it from getting any worse. Doc said that if it gets worse or if itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s not getting better by the time the meds are done to bring him back, and heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ll see him again free of charge!

Poor baby. I hope his ear gets better.

Cats who are allowed outdoors tend to be more at risk of these types of injuries. They encounter other cats, they get into fights... you get the picture. Plus like you said, there's always the risk of being shot.

Keeping Max close to home would go a long ways toward preventing future injuries and racking up veterinary costs. It would really be best for both of you!

Poor little baby - those things aren't fun! Definately keep the pus from forming too much or he could become fevered!

I took him to Dr. Korsen, Animal Care Center. I typically use Dr. Satterwhite on Weems Rd.

Oh I know. I hate letting him outside, especially since Rotten was killed, but he gets really stressed and destructive if he's kept in for too long!

Does he have toys? A kitty condo? A favorite windowsill overlooking a bird feeder? Stuff to keep him entertained and out of trouble?

He sounds like a handful, LOL. I've always had indoors-only cats, but I've found it takes some creativity to keep them busy. I rotate the toys every week so my cat doesn't get bored with the same-old, same-old. Often I'll leave out a couple of paper grocery bags or a box that she can explore. She loves windowsills, so I arranged the furniture to make it easy for her to climb up and look outdoors.

If Max is really active and easily bored, he might enjoy interactive toys. The key is to make his indoor environment an attractive alternative to the outdoors.

He won't play with toys unless I'm on the other end of it. I have a 7 ft. cat tree for them that he loves, plus, Bandit is inside. Unfortunately, my BF doesn't want the cats in the windows
I don't understand it either, but he just absolutely refuses to budge. Mostly I think b/c when they do get in the windows they destroy our blinds and Billy is real funny about having uncovered windows... It's a lose lose situation...

I've even tried leaving the TV on Animal Planet... Calling the house and talking to them through the answering machine... He just really doesn't like being in the house for too long...

BTW, thank you all for your kind words and healing vibes! I get soooo stressed out if anything is wrong with my babies!!

Like right now, I'm still worried sick about him because that sore just looks awful and it's gotta be painful!!

Awwww poor max!! Feel better kitty!
That goo that comes out of his ear has to smell! Bleh!
At least he's staying in until it heals... Maybe by then the cat he fought with will forget or have moved on?
