Girl, 12 stabbed outside all ages club, should her parents be charged?

A young girl had the permission of her parents to be at an all ages club where she was subsequently stabbed at 2 am (yes - am) by another young girl. Some politicians are saying that the parents should be charged with neglect as they allowed her to go out this late to this place. What do you think?

In this case, no. I see many cases where I think parents should be charged with neglect but this isn't one of them. Imo, a 13 year old should not be allowed out until 2am.. but if this "all ages" club was open for business and these kids were allowed to be there then I find it to be their responsibility for maintaining a safe environment. Children should not be allowed to be partying with adults... But there really isn't enough info in the article. I mean, was alcohol being served? It mentioned that this was one of the special "all age" events and that this wasn't an all the time thing. I think it should have been run a bit differently.

I agree completely with this statement. Although it was a STUPID mistake on the parents part, (12 yrs old unsupervised at a club with adults??? till 2??) But I am sure there were many other underage children there who fortunately didn't get stabbed, but whose parents also then should be charged. I am curious to know what kind of event was it, and the atmosphere also.

I've never heard of these " All ages " clubs before, i know we don't have them over here.

I don't think the parents should be charged with neglect if these clubs are legal, BUT, they need a lesson in how to bring their kids up properly.

I went to an all ages club all the time when I was younger but there is much difference between 12 and 15 IMO....Also, the all ages clubs I know about, adults certainly don't frequent...

(Imagine being in a room all night with shrieking 13 year old girls..Yes, pure torture ) and not something many adults I know of would find enjoyable.
There are enough adult nightclubs to go to. I would find it suspicious to see a 25 year old hanging out there.

At the one I frequented, it was simply a social place to dance, eat pizza and drink coke and IIRC, closing time was midnight.

However, now looking back I shudder to think of my DD attending one with all the 16 year old boys ogling the 13 year old girls...Ack.

In a perfect world, club rules would dictate that a parent must pick up the child(ren) at the end of the evening and that there were responsible adults minding the shop all night.

I don't think this girl's parents should be charged legally but perhaps they should be mandated to take a parenting class.

I grew up in an area with a strict curfew for children and teens, and "junior" drivers' licenses (not valid between 12 and 6 a.m. for 16-year-olds with or without driver's ed, or for 17-year-olds without it). I really can't imagine letting a 12-year-old stay out till midnight, let alone 2 a.m.! What were the parents thinking?

Ya aren't there curfew laws anyways? My sister was stopped by a cop for being out after midnight. Under 18 has to be home by midnight. Well my sister is a few months from being 18, it was 12:10 and she was coming from a school event.

I don't think the parents should necessarily by in trouble with the law for this, the are responsible for their own kids and it is pretty irresponsible to let such young kids out in this situation. Shame on them for their bad parenting skills.

No I don't think they should be charged. It's the club that should be charged... where's the security?

MY first thought was "curfew". WHY was a 12 y/o out at 2 am?

Yeah, that's the one I'm having difficulty with. Children should be home, in bed, asleep, long before that. I was brought up in the Dark Ages, but I don't think times have changed THAT much.

The parents are guilty of neglect. It is their duty to make sure that the environment was safe. They should have made sure that there was proper supervision. And if there wasn't, then they should have stayed. Besides, 2 am is way too late for a 12 year old to be out unsupervised.

"All-ages events don’t happen every weekend, but when they do they can put underage children in the same crowd as legal adults."

What are you kidding me?!!!! Its easy enough for pervs to get a hold of children from the net and they want it to be easier?!

I'm sorry but are they nuts!

i wasnt allowed out till 2 am when i was 12, although at 13, 14 i was down at the park till 2 am and my mum would know where i was.. and i was always with a group of friends.

I think its stupid to have these sort of clubs, there are many 12 year olds who make them selves look older and go off with 18, 20, 25 year old men.

*shudders*
