I was reading our newspaper tonite and came across this, and it got me wondering....whats the fine and such for animal cruelty where you live? To me, I think it should be alot more than 30 days, and a big ole' hefty fine! What do ya'all think??

They finally got it passed to where it will be considered a "felony" which
I guess is better than a misdemonor.

`You are about to witness a murder' ??? And they videotaped it????

OH MY GOD. And they didn't even spend any time in jail for the offense, except for a little loophole they wouldn't have had any jail time at all. They knew EXACTLY what they were doing and videod it so they could watch it again. They should be in prison for LIFE.

I am utterly appalled, that poor little dog.

RIP Scruffy

I was living in KC at the time, and with the outrage that swept the city, I am surprised that there is still no law in place.
I cannot imagine how a human being can do such a horrendous thing to a helpless animal. I see prison in the future of those boys. That is how serial killers get their start.

As I had gone though the court system with Sheba's case-it does vary from state to state and also if the DA's office classifies the crime as a felony or misdemeanor. Sheba's was orginally charged as felony but reduced to misdemeanor as there wasn't enough evidence to keep as a felony (bad for me!!)But remember to any animal crime gets alot of press which the guilty party or their family doesn't like. To me this was a bonus and I'm sure its embarassing to the family of the crime comitter!!!
I hope that makes sense!!

This is a travesty. I couldn't read the whole thing. These laws need to change and every one of us can help. Please (please, please, please, please, please, please) click on the link in my siggy for more information about making the penalties for animal abuse much tougher.

If you're interested in your state's laws, I've researched all of them, summarized them and have links to the actual law here: http://straypetadvocacy.org/html/cruelty_laws.html I do update those every year at the end of the legislature sessions.

It does vary from state to state, and unforunately even if a felony provision is on the books it all depends on the prosecutor and judge if any kind of real punishment is handed down.

I'll also move this to SOS.
