How did you get your real name? - Page 2

My parents liked the name Karen. My middle name is Mary which is the shortened version of my mother's name, Marilyn.

My mom was so sure I was a boy. She really liked the name Nathaniel. So she was a little surprised when she ended up with a girl. So she chose the feminine form of the name - Natalie. Lynn was a popular middle name at the time as many people I know have it .

I was named Jennifer (go by Jenney though) because it was the most popular name at the time.
My mom said they were considering Linda also but liked Jennifer better. Somedays I wish they had stuck with Linda...then that way I would be one less head turned when someone says "Hey Jenney!"

I mentioned in the other thread that my name was a last minute decision.
Mom said she first thought of Karen-Karen and Sharon icky rhyming twin names!!! But my dad had a cousin named Karen and didn't want it!!

My parents wanted a name that couldn't be shortened as they had names that people would shorten. So I've spent my life having to convince people it wasn't short for something else! One teacher took weeks before accepting my name wasn't officially Jane, Janet, or Janice. My middle name is Adriann to honor my dad and his father. It's a feminine version of their middle name Adrian. However, mom wanted an "e" on the end and dad said it would make it too long. Dad won this argument.

Had I been born with a Y chromosome, I'd been named Bryan - which is what one of my cousins named his oldest!

My Mom was almost named for two of her mom's siblings - Harvey and Pearl! Luckily grandma was out of it and grandpa named her.

I was named after a doll my mom got as a kid. Mom showed me Natalie doll when I was 5. The thing scared me so much I cried & screamed. I am still crying... To this day Natalie doll scares the daylights out of me.

Soooo....I tell people I got named after Natalie Wood!

I was a "miracle" child of sorts - my parents had infertility issues for many years and were about to give up when I came along. I'm named after both my parents; "Jo" from John and my mom's middle name is Anne.

My parents, being the uber-Democrats that they are, named me after Amy Carter .

I was named after Farrah Fawcett. I was born in '77 and my dad named me. I think he really had a crush on her.

That's such a shame about your twin. Wonder what's with the crazy old aunt's name?!

Uggh! My parents wanted to go with Paula and Pauline. Seriously. Glad someone with more sense intervened!
