I was going to be Abigail, which means `father's child' but mum and dad thought of Sarah on the same day at the same time - separately from each other - so that's how I ended up with that! It means princess, which is perfect! My middle name, Penelope, was my maternal grandmother's name.

Max was Gavin when he was born, but changed it to Max by deed poll a couple of years ago. He detests Gavin, and I don't really blame him, although I'm not as passionate about it as he is
His family have almost got it - his Mum and Dad, and two sisters never call him Gav anymore, and haven't for ages, but relatives we don't see too often still do, and it makes his flesh creep...

Yeah, I don't think its as awful as he thinks it is!! His girlfriend from many years ago was Karen (which also isn't bad) but apparently they used to hate it because everyone called them `Gav and Kaz' - which they thought was terribly `okka' Aussie!

My Dad's name is Patrick, so.... Patricia

Also it's an Irish-like name I guess & he just liked it.
My Mom wanted to name me Rebecca, but he didn't know that, so he wrote Patricia,... My Mom was fine with it though, thank God!!

I was named after a babysitter, a hair salon, and another little girl who all happened to have the same name, just because it sounded cool at the time.
My parents almost named me Carlotta.
So glad they didn't. My middle name was meant to sound more adult in case I became a power-suit (it was the 80s) --Christine-- but I hate it. All the other girls for generations had Jean or Jeanne as a middle name, and I'm the odd one out.
Plus, everyone's name ends in -e or -ie. First and middle.

I didn't post in the What's Your Real Name thread, b/c thats obvious! And my name has no real significance, mom and dad just liked it. I like it I guess, but hate the fact that it is so common. In my Nursing class of 46, there are 5 Ashleys.
And I know of atleast 3 other Ashley Nicoles that I've met at some point. And I've always wanted a cool nickname. I only have Ash.... ?

You never mentioned what your real name is? It may have been on purpose, and if so, just ignore me!

I went to the courthouse and paid a $75 filing fee

I picked it because I couldn't stand my birth name.
Arlyn is Celtic and means oath, or pledge, because that's was how I got my birth name, a promise made on my aunt's deathbed.

I waited too long though, I was 32 when I changed it.
My folks are still getting used to it, but mostly they call me That Girl now.

My mom has a theme in our family- one name is French- her side and the other is Jewish, my dad's side.
My first name is Mollie, which was my dad's grandmother's name. My middle name is Louise, which was my mom's grandmother's name, as well as her mother's middle name, and my aunt is named Mary Louise. Not to mention my grandpa's name is Louis.

Allison was just what my dad liked. I was Amanda in utero, but my mom was so drugged out that my dad did my official naming. So I'm Allison.

Lia, my middle name, is my Grandma's maiden name. Cecelia, my other middle name, is also a family name.

My mother's cousin is a Leighann, just not spelled the same way I spell mine. She just liked her name. Mom wanted to name me Rachael, which is kind of funny, because when I was a kid I wanted that to be my name too, but she hadn't told me that. Now I'm ok with Leighann!

I'm Frances Daisy.

I was going to be Diane. Many little girls were Diane the year I was born, and my Dad loved that name. But a few hours after I was born, he was looking through the nursery window at me and I made some face that instantly reminded him of my Mum's brother, who had died the year before. Frank was Dad's friend as much as he was Mum's brother, so of course I became Frances, and Diane got shunted to middle -- until my brother (then 8) reminded them that HIS middle name was Dad's name, so MINE should be Mum's.
