How much time do you spend doing non work related things? Based on an 8 hour shift.

Like visiting the TCS website and other internet surfing
Spending time on the phone
etc. etc. etc.

Do your bosses know... do they mind? Personally mine is very cool, so as long as we get our work done, she doesn't really care. We (including my boss) spend at least 1/2 hour each Wednesday discussing American Idol.

Sometimes during the winter hours it is so slow at work, I can get all of my work done in 1.5 hours out of 8.

I spend way to much time on here. More lately than usual because I'm in-between projects. As soon as our new project gets started up I won't be on near as much. It makes for a needed break though if I'm coding all day. But yah...right now I'm waiting for people to get stuff done so I can proceed with what I need to do.

some days i'm on almost the entire day, other days i'm hardly ever on. i'm a content mastery [special ed] teacher. i help kids with their regular classwork when needed - that last being the operative phrase. today, i've only seen 4 kids, but yesterday i saw about 13, at different times throughout the day. so even when i'm not surfing, i'm usually playing games or something on the computer. i have to stay in my room to be available if anyone needs help!

Usually I have TCS up all day at work - if its slow in the office (like today) I'm on here for awhile since I'm caught up. Its nice to have something to do to take my mind off crabby customers and icky work stuff!

I always feel kind of guilty though. Like i should be working my butt off. Especially since I'm the IT Manager here...

I came from a job where they constantly checked what you were doing (Managers would randomly pop into your cube and ask "what are you doing?"). Then if you were caught goofing off, they'd give you another project (which my luck, I ALWAYS got caught..even if I was so busy and that was the same moment that I took a break to check my email ONCE).

Where I work now, they really don't care. If there isn't anything pressing and I don't download streaming audio, I'm golden. For example, yesterday I was so bored and unmotivated that I just surfed all day! I know its bad though.

The only time I spend on the internet is when I grab a quick bite in my office...I'll usually check out the latest scores on espn.com or news on cnn.com, and then it's back to work....10 minutes max every third day or so...

Well, my office manager knows I'm on here all day, but the owner doesn't, and I think he'd have a fit if he knew. Our work takes us perhaps 3 out of 7 hours...........you guys who have the cool bosses are lucky! We're not hurting anything, and I just can't stand sitting here staring at the walls!

I voted 3 + hours but that's only when the weather is bad and there isn't any flying. On other days I'm lucky if I have enough time to eat lunch!

We're typically too busy to do that stuff. We chat here and there, but really, it's busy and the consumers are always around. Plus there is always something else to do...someone to help, a paper to grade, a report to write, a computer to fix....it goes on and on. Plus our company doesn't want us online like that. Not that I don't play a game on lunch once in a while or check to mutts strip of the day, but I don't want to chance it either.

I drive for a living, so I don't use a computer at work except to clock in and out. I do carry a cell phone, though, so I often take care of personal phone business while on the road.

i uesd to never get on.. then the boss screwed me and i started to care less, and added up maybe an hour each day. Continual screwing increased that number. Lately I've also been having a lot of personal problems so I would say currently like 4ish hours but I realize that I need to change this and take back my life. I need to work thru my problems and get down to maybe 2 hours a day max, and only that on sloooww days.
