Another thread got me thinking about this. What popular/strange foods do people eat in your area?

In NH real maple syrup was the only way to go. Seafood was a big deal as well, New England Clam chowder mmmm. Also fresh-picked apples off the tree. Rhubarb made into pies & jellies, or fresh dipped in sugar.

In NC they have vinegar bbq (always had tomato base till I moved here, its growing on me as I am a huge bbq fan), Hushpupies (yum), sweet tea (ewww), grits (ewww), other southern fried type foods, fresh peaches.

When I lived in Montana I tried my first cactus, it was good! Though I see cactus leaves in the stores here...I haven't actually bought one yet..

Hmmmm....

I guess Rocky Mountain Oysters. Those are deep fried bull....um.... testicles.
Actually, I have to say that I've never had them, and some people really like them. Just the thought makes me wanna

Maybe the other thing around here would be buffalo - like buffalo burgers, buffalo steaks. That I have had, and it is amazing. Very tender and naturally lean.

And what is chourico? I'll have to make mental notes when I visit places to try what they are known for! Well that is....if its remotely appetizing. I don't I'll think be trying...whats it called, blood pudding from England?

Oh yes...I used to live in Livingston. My mom tried Rocky Mountain Oysters without knowning what they were! We have a Ted's here but I'm not sure where the branch is out of...Its the best place around this area to get buffalo and I LOVE buffalo burgers and buffalo chile...mmmmMMmmm.

There is a large Portuguese population in this area and chourico is a spicy Portuguese sausage.

NO!!! NO BLOOD PUDDING! I ate it without knowing what it was in Ireland.
It didn't taste bad, but then I found out what it was

I dont think I have tried Black Pudding (blood pudding), but dont see what all the fuss is about if you already eat meat

You get worse things in hotdog and gelatine.

Jellied eels: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jellied_eels

Black pudding thats what its called! Ugh. The fact that its congealed pigs blood is a little gross. Of course I don't eat pork, and don't like sausage so that might not help matters! Your probably right about hot dogs (which is the closest thing to a sausage that I will eat). But I figured nowadays they can't be made that bad...

I'm not sure what to make of the jellied eels....

My grandfather used to eat the tomalley (green insides) of the lobster which I guess is supposed to be a real delicacy. Not to sure if I will be trying that one...

Spätzle (fresh noodles: 4 large eggs to a pound of flour, with a pinch of salt and enough water to get a muffin-batter texture), "scraped" into boiling, salty water and removed as soon as they rise to the top) and Maultaschen (Swabian ravioli, with a meat and spinach filling, usually served with fried onions and a green salad, or in vegetable soup).
