On Sar's advice I bought a can of mushy peas for Sat niites dinner.
The results: Neil didn't like, I don't know if my dad tried them??? To me they were just ok-mom loved them!!! She said it was like eating really thick peas soup!! I added some butter and black pepper while heating.
Will I buy them again.......probably not. But hey at least I tried them!!

I like them, but can't find them around here unless I go out to dinner at the Pig & Whistle. A friend told me she bought me some last time she sent away for English food (oh, about 2 months ago...) but I haven't seen them yet.

Well we grilled out hamburgers, bratwurst, coleslaw, potato chips.
You mean you put them over another food???

Our local fish and chips place always has mushy peas on the menu. A lot of ex-British folks have them with their fish and chips.

I've tried them - I agree they are like a very thick pea soup. I like pea soup so naturally I liked them.

Burgers, bratwurst and coleslaw are not what we have with mushy peas

We have them with fish and chips like Linda said or with a steak pie.

Give it one more try with those because they are lovely. Oh and don't forget bread and butter when you have the fish and chips, with lots of salt and vinegar

I have some left over fish & Chips (we call fish fry) I can have for lunch and try the peas again!! The restaurants usually serve our fish frys with rye bread and butter.
So you just heat the peas up-no seasonings or additions????

Gail, I'm so pleased to hear that you gave them a go!

As Susan said, it's better with something like fish and chips, pie, sausages etc!

I usually just add some salt and perrer when I cook my mushy peas, but I do often do them without anything, as I'll be adding a mass of salt and vinegar with the meal!

Owwwwwww..... fish chips and mushy peas......mmmmmmmmmmm now I am getting homesick.

We can get fish and chips with mushy peas here but they are not the same as the UK ones.

OMG you lot in the US don't know what you are missing. (never had them with butter though I must say)

It brings back memories of going to the seaside with my mom & Dad as kids and eating fish and chips on the sea front..... yum yum.

My OH doesn't like them he prefers curry sauce....heathen that he is...

Ah well maybe going home in July so I will indulge then
