Another post reminded me of a question I have been wanting to ask.

Shenzi gave birth almost 8 months ago, it has been at least 3 months since I have witnessed any residual 'comfort' nursing. (we kept 4 of the kittens)

Oh, and she was spayed after the kittens were weaned, so there is no chance of pregnancy.

The thing is, her nipples still look like they did when she was nursing. Not pink anymore, but still like oblong and they stick out pretty far. They are not swollen or anything..not lumpy. Just look like a nursing cats nipples. (I hope I explained that right, LOL)

Is that something that just never goes away?

Just wanted to add, I am not worried about this, only curious. I would take her to the vet if I was concerned. I just never had a cat who delivered a litter. Her nipples just look different than her female kittens and my other adult female cat (who were all spayed and never pregnant)

Also, I do not know her history before she showed up on our doorstep, hugely pregnant. Maybe this wasn't her only litter? I dunno.
