I have just set up my AirPort base station and everything is configured (as correctly as I can tell!) I am getting good signal, but Firefox (and Explorer) won't recognise that I have connection!

The base is picking up signal from my AirPort Card and vice versa, but I can't get it to work with my browser!!

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this to work?! Am I missing something obvious?! I think I'm out of ideas as I've been working on it for so long!

Any help or info will be greatly appreciated!

Have you set up in System Preferences?

Getting a signal from your base station is independant of wether or not your internet is working.

Try hooking directly into your internet through your rj45 ethernet cable. If you can't connect to the internet that way then either your isp is currently down (call and complain!) or if you have multiple computers on your network, you need to make sure you have service for multiple ip addresses.

If you CAN get on the internet, then I would guess a neighbor has wireless transmitting on the same signal. This can cause your wireless to be buggy. Try changing your wireless to a different chanel. If on a mac (which I'm assuming) you can do this through your airport utility.

Now, this is all what my fiance' says to do (he's the techi geek in the family). Let me know if it still doesn't work and i'll have him trouble shoot some more for you. He was able to hook up something like 2 airport base stations and 5 airport expresses to give his bosses MANSION total wireless coverage. According to apple, you can't do that (ie: they don't have support for things like that). So i'm pretty sure he can figure it out. Also, once you do get it working, make sure you password protect your signal so other people can't steal wireless from you and do illegal things.
and thanks for using a mac! they rule!

Deb, yes I did set up the system preferences, as I had to perform a hard reset to begin with!
(I probably would have forgotten otherwise - with all the excitement of finally getting broadband and going wireless!
)

Thank you so much Julia! There's a lot of food for thought there!

It didn't work through the ethernet yesterday, but I'm going to try again today - with a fresh head on me! But the idea about the same signal does ring bells as there are many neighbours running wirelss networks! I'll have a go with that too!

It's funny how you mentioned that your Fiance managed to do something Apple doesn't like to say is possible!
I'm pretty much netowrking a PC, imac and ibook through my AirPort via a secondary (un mac compatible) router!
I believe that anything can be done - with a little help from our friends!

I'll give your ideas a go today and will definitely get back to you if I'm still flummoxed!

Thank you for your help!

Thank you for your help!

I'm finally up and running on breadband and wirelessly to boot!

I had everything set up well, but with the things that you pointed out, I managed to discover the the secondary wireless router had become unconfigured!

So after a bit of faffing, everything is up and running brilliantly!

Thank you so much for your help! I definitely know where to turn if I encounter any other troubles (or decide to create a massive wireless network!
)

hooray! that sounds kind of like some of the problems he had with 5 express stations, got two working, one would drop off . . .
I'll tell him all the computers you got networked together off the two types of router, I think he'll be impressed!

I think he will be too!
(Not quite as impressive as his achievement, though!) I'm very impressed with myself!!
It's amazing how some of the smallest things can cause so much confusion!

Thank you both for pointing me in the right direction - made me look at other factors!!

I also have the airport thing, since we wirelessed our apt. One thing I found out the hard way is that if you ever take the card out of your computer you have to totally reinstall it or it won't work.
Then again, you probably have the kind of computer that its internal?

I'm so glad you got everything figured out! Someone else had to do mine for me.

My Airport cards are internal, but I did have to install them (they're the old school ones!)

The computers connected are running PC Windows 98 (external USB WiFi dongle), iMac OS9/OSX 10.1.5 and iBook 10.2.1 (both Original AirPort cards) So none of the computers are new!

I have, somehow, now managed to lose the iMac from the connection, but am spending this rainy day sorting the thing out!
