Are you having fun yet?
Definitely! You guys are awesome!

If you could only eat 1 food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Noodles of any kind. I LOVE noodles!

Do you feel your age?
No, I feel like I'm 30. Which considering that I'm 20 might not be a good thing!

Other then furbabies, do you have any kids?
Not yet. It's a possibility down the line, perhaps, if this flute thing ever settles down long enough for me to consider it!

What made you choose the flute as your instrument of choice?
My mom wouldn't let me play the drums and I couldn't get a sound out of the clarinet. So Mr. Ellman handed me a flute, I was the only kid who got a sound out of it on the first try and the rest is history!

What is your favourite book?
1984 by George Orwell

What is your favourite song?
Wild Horses by The Rolling Stones

I'd have about 12 cats and 4 dogs and 4 horses. Which is roughly my plan for when I am filthy rich and retire to a farm to live out my days wildly spoiling animals! (yeah right)

Does playing flute pay the bills yet??
Not all of them! I'm not even done with my bachelor's so I don't sweat it...yet. I freelance here and there and I teach lessons, so in a good month, it's about half of my income and in a slow month it's about a third. I'd like to concentrate on studio teaching as a profession, so as far as the music industry goes, that's a pretty stable gig.

Oooh, good questions!!

1. Why did you choose your avatar?
Because of the lion...my favorite animal besides domestic cat and because my cats are all little lions

2. What shampoo do you use?
Avalon Organics

3. Where do shop for groceries?
Whole Foods or Trader Joe's

4. Do you use coupons?
Nope

5. What's the average amount of time you spend shopping for groceries?
Probably like a half an hour

6. Do you ever feel "off" when you play your flute?
Honey, that's the story of my life these past few weeks.

7. How long have you played the flute?
Since I was 8, so 12 years. I grew up with it.

8. How does listening to music make you feel?
I can't go anywhere or do anything without music. I'm listening to Andre Jolviet's Cinq Incantations pour flute seule right now

9. How does playing music in front of others make you feel?
Amazing. It gives me such a rush. I love doing it.

10. Do you ever listen to a play-back of your music?
I record myself practicing all the time. I tried to upload one of those recordings, but it wouldn't let me. Probably for the better...they are practice after all!

11. How strongly do you feel a music program in schools are a benfefit?
I wrote my capstone about it when I graduated from college prep HS! I think if every kid had to learn to appreciate music and had to learn to play an instrument we wouldn't have half the problems in education that we have today.

12. Why do you think (if you do, and I imagine you do) children should learn to play an insturment?
It teaches them how to work hard, be responsible, appreciate art, have the patience to appreciate classical music, it teaches them how to work as a team, it exposes kids to a talent they may have also!

13. Do you write your own music?
No, I tried my hand at it and there was no "spark" there. My best friend is a composer, though...I LOVE working with composers!! It's one of my favorite things to do. I'm playing on a concert in about a month with the work of all Latin composers who are living. It's been interesting. Mine's for flute and computer generated sounds.

And no, I'm not sure how I have time for flute and TCS. I sometimes feel guilty...like I should spend more time practicing and less on TCS, but I practice like 4 or 5 hours a day as it is! Part of it is that I entered school with so many college credits that I'm just barely a full time student. The "Old school" way of thinking is that I shouldn't have a life outside of flute and I should be thinking about it 24/7, but my gut instinct is that that can't be healthy...

TCS or anything else that you enjoy as "extra-curricular" should be a part of your life. You should never feel guilty about that, esp since you spend that many hours practicing.
(You are due loads of respect for that in itself) I think you need that to be a well-balanced person, and that is a part of a healthy life! "all work and no play"
blows!
