Ever since the change from the old banners and ads to the new, I have noticed that viewing the threads takes much longer to load. Even more so in the last few days. You can bring up TCS main page quick, and even browse through the top of the forums with ease. But as soon as you click to view a thread it takes forever. I have noticed this both at home (with cable internet) and at work (with dial-up, which nearly kills me). Before this was never an issue. What I would like to know is, If I pay for a subscription does that take care of the problem or will that still be an underlying issue? I have been considering getting a subscription already but that would sort of drive me batty if that still did that even after paying.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

Jill

P.S. even with the load times, that does not deter me from spending way too much time here!

I'm curious about that too.

It's so bad with my dial-up that I only have time to view a couple of threads a day.

I'm also using IE 6.0, and am having no problems whatsoever, though I have a DSL connection, and have turned the advertising off.

I've also experience this to. At home I'll use firefox with little trouble. At work I use IE 6.0 and refresh often.

Yeah viewing and replying here too. I am also using IE both at home and at work. Will try with Firefox though too to see if there is a difference.

I hadn't really noticed a huge slowdown on TCS, but I just emptied my browser cache, and the site is now flying for me

I've gotten into the habit of emptying every week or two; it does seem to help.
The question is: Is anybody who has the advertising turned off having trouble, i.e., does that make a huge difference?

I am having this problem also...drives me nuts.

I have the advertising removed with a special blocker so I get non of the advertising on every page yet I still have this problem.

You know, advertising blockers are going to make webmasters charge for sites. Advertising is our source of revenue, the way we get paid for the work put into sites (not to mention expenses). If too many people use advertising blockers, revenue drops and the whole net will move into a pay-per-content model... Just something to think about before using advertising blockers
you are in a fact using sites and not "paying" back for using them.

I am not sure what is causing slow loading times. I will ask Scott to look into it again.

An update - we are looking into various possibilities. So far we can tell it's not the ads. The next suspect was the signatures, but those seem to be off the hook as well. I'll ask Scott to post here too. Scoooooooooooooooottttttttttttttt!

Thanks for having them look into it! I don't use pop-up blockers for TCS, actually havn't since I started really being here when I signed up. I wasn't sure if it was the banners but it did begin about that time frame, but has gotten worse within the last few weeks. So, with a paid membership it will not make the load times quicker with the advertising tuned off since that is not causing it? Will wait to hear from Scott and see what he can tell us!

Ok... I just noticed something. When I get an "Error on page" message down in my status bar, the banners do not load and then it takes like four times to get it to load but then the page and thread loads fine and I can go on to other threads too no problem, NO BANNERS! I know you said that it's not the banners causing load time but could there be a script error that is causing them not to load at all for some people and hence causing a delay occasionally? Just a thought! Thanks!

I get the same script error and it takes several seconds (slower than normal) for the page to load. I thought I was the only one also i used to be able to double click on the smilies and they would appear in my text but now it doesnt work. anyone else having this problem?
