Hello,

My kitty had an abcessed tooth last week and ended up having 4 teeth removed total. This was last Tuesday, and she still is not wanting to eat much, even the soft prescription food. All she has had since yesterday afternoon is a little milk. How long before I may see some improvement in her eating? It has now been 5 days since the surgery, and I'm starting to worry about her liver, as she is a larger cat. She is also on Clindamycin for the infection, and it's been SO hard getting her to take the capsules.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Poor darling! In my experience, antibiotics always affect the appetite. They don't eat as much and once in a while, they have soft stools. Even then, you should finish the course of the medication with improvements showing a day or two before it ends. But if you are still worried, it doesn't hurt to consult your vet.
If you are having a hard time with capsules, maybe you can ask the vet to change the meds to liquid form. I also have a hard time with pills, so I always insist on liquid.
Hope your cat gets well soon.

OH gosh!!! Did the Vet give your kitty any pain meds?? My kitty had a couple teeth removed, by Vet #1 and I had to BEG for pain meds as they kept insisting she wouldn't be still hurting, a week later! Well, she WAS, and they did give me the liquid pain med and I kept her on it, for 2 months. Why? Because I ended up taking her to another Vet's because she got an awful tooth/jaw infection and almost died. They were appalled she was not on any antibiotics OR the other Vet said she wasn't in pain! They said, it takes a good 2 months to be completely painfree, from having them extracted like this! Well, I had a tooth pulled in November and I TRULY do believe them now! It took, until the middle of February, for that dang thing to feel really comfortable! (but I took Advil from November until December for it, and that was only ONE tooth!!)
Please, If your kitty is not on any pain meds, call your Vets and demand they give you something for your poor little kitty's pain!!!!!!!!!

for the responses! She is on a liquid pain medicine, but it's very difficult to get her to take it. She is so stubborn and smart! We hold her mouth shut for like 10 minutes, and we see her swallowing, but she somehow manages to hack it back up. We took her in for a follow up visit last night, and the vet tech couldn't even get her to take the meds. Basically they just gave us extra pills and said good luck! The good news is she has been eating some of the soft food this morning, and we got the antibiotic down. We did the butter on her nose as I read somewhere online, and she ended up swallowing the pill. Hopefully she'll feel better soon!

My advice is to insist on pain medications and antibiotics. Not all vets will give these automatically.

Hmmmm....have you tried chicken baby food (stage 1 no onions) or warming up her soft food? That might work!

Poor thing! I really feel for both of you.
