But we got it fixed. Or, well, my fiance got it fixed. lol
On Monday, it started giving the super blue screen of death. The one that says your files are all corrupted and your hard drive is screwed, and it's dumping the memory. It ws also running super-slow. So we ran SpyBot, which couldn't finish because it kept getting hung up on some weird thing. Which turned out to be a mail bot. Which had totally fried our system.
My fiance, bless his heart, spent the every evening this week and almost all day today trying to fix it. He ran every diagnostic, every scan, everything he could think of. It still wouldn't work. He ended up having to wipe the thing clean and re-install the factory settings. Fortunately we were able to burn most of our data off to DVD before he did the wipe, but I did lose a few folders. And we both lost ALL of our 'net favorites, which SUCKS!!!
Oh well, it's better than losing the whole computer!

My laptop has crashed once and had a virus too - both times, I lost ALL my files and had to re-install EVERYTHING including Windows 2000. That does suck but you're very lucky you didn't lose everything!

Oh, it was WORSE than the "your system is overloaded please restart" Blue Screen Of Death...it was the super-duper one, that says you are beyond screwed. LOL
Yeah, we were REALLY lucky to get it up and running long enough to burn off pictures, videos, music, and other important files. I would have cried if we had lost all our pictures and music. My fiance was also able to get it to where it would run for about an hour before crashing, and he was able to get some re-install help from his message board and the Dell board. But you know what REALLY sucked?? Freakin' Dells don't come with a single "system restore" disk, like our old HP did!! So my fiance had to reinstall everything seperately. Which was fun because he had to do Windows (XP=extra problems), the CD/DVD burners, Word, all that stuff.
But he did it, and without one major temper tantrum, which earns him the man of the year award.
