Anyone got any tips or ingredients for making great smoothies?

I have a smoothie maker that I have not used for about a year and have just decided to start using it again! The other day I made a banana and milk smoothie but I put one of those Vanillla pro-biotic yogurt drinks in it and it tasted amazing!

So I am looking for some more ideas to try!

One that I like is....

Stawberries
Banana
Ice
Juice (I use apple juice but any juice will do. It depends on your taste)

Blend all ingredients together for a delicous, healthy drink.

You can experiment with different fruits and juices to your liking.

Oooh, Gilly! When you make the banana one, adda bit of Baileys (sp?!
) It's delicious!

I have a great Smoothie, Juice and Soup book - '100 Health Boosting Drinks' (Hamlyn)

There are some great recipes in there and they're good for you!

The book is pretty cheap too!

If you freeze the fruit in chunks first, the smoothie comes out almost like ice cream, great for the summer.

Blueberries...great for you.

I use frozen yoghurt (vanilla), whatever fruit is in freezer (raspberries or strawberries), a splash or so of orange juice, some regular vanilla yoghurt, a spoonful of honey and then I blend!!!

Mmmm...this thread is going in all the right directions!!!

At work we make one with vanillia yogurt, ice, banana, strawberries, milk and honey...we subsitute the yogurt and ice for frozen yogurt during the summer months to make it easier for us.

I've used frozen mixed berries before and it was pretty good...although I need to try some vanillia yogurt instead of plain...ended up tart!

I was just thinking though...I think sometime I'm going to try something similar but using peach slices and some mango.

On a similar note, I heard on a cooking show once, that when your mangoes get too ripe you can stick them in a freezer and then take them out later and eat them with a spoon...sort of an instant sherbert. I have yet to try it, but it sure sounds good.

I make mine with soymilk and partially thawed frozen fruit. Any fruit works. Strawberries, peaches, bananas, mangoes, pineapple, raspberries...whatever I have around and happen to feel like that morning.

My favorite "extra" in smoothies is coconut creme. Soooo good with strawberries, pineapple, or just about anything!
