My friend has a bi-colour boy and he is magnificent. He's so shy though that I've never been able to hold him or in fact get very close to him.

One thing I noticed at petsmart yesturday was that the good brands are expensive. one of the bags was over 20.00 for 6 pounds or 7 something like that. May I can probably make food cheaper then that
I wont because am not that good in the kitchen but WOW I was floored.

I am really glad that your cat is doing better. It could've been some kind of extreme allergy to a chemical additive but work with your vet as far as medication is concerned. It could be some kind of combination of food and medicine that is working.

Even though the better food is more expensive, they eat less (because of the better nutrients) so it actually evens out in the long term. (Sort of like eating 6 big macs instead of a lovely meat/vegetable dinner.)

Carrie,

It may be the combination of the phenobarbital and the change in food. No matter what, if you found something that works, stick with it!

I took care of a foster baby that was taking that stuff it was awful. I think it does cause tummy troubles, but then again it was a human baby that was born addicted to drugs.

I had no idea that low grade supermarket food could do that. No idea at all.
Many of the articles that I have read on hyperesthesia state that a poor diet could be one cause, so yes, food is the first thing to look at when dealing with the twitching. If you're looking for a food stay away from excessive grains, by-products, colouring and unnatural preservatives (ethoxyquin, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). It seems the simplier ingredient list is the better one.

Also from my research most articles also talk about staying away from cat foods that contain wheat since it also is a cause for allergic reactions.

I would discuss your oberservations with your vet and maybe at some point slowly go off the drugs to see if the food is the main cause.

Good luck!

Now I know and I feel good that I am feeding her a healthy food.
I don't think you're crazy to think that food played a role - Jamie's twitching became so much less obvious after I found foods with as little grain as possible. It may be the medication, it may be the food, or it may be a combination of the two helping.

When Dazy ate Alpo wet food in the dessert because that was all we coulf find she began to scoot her butt. We never saw her ever do this. I called the vet who said her glands may need to be express so I took her in. He said she was 100% fine well she kept doing this. Once the alpo was gone I went back to the Nutro and she stopped. The following summer same thing the Alpo because it all the store has in the dessert she scooted. This time I caught on came home right back to Nutro and she stoped. Animals just react to food differeant then like we get hives. This is just my opinion and it is based on my Bassehound.

Sorry, I somehow missed the post about being in the desert. My bad - I obviously need to read more carefully.

Petsmart foods are all overpriced compared to the stuff at feed stores and low-chain pet food stores. Nutro Ultra goes for $35 (CAN) at Petsmart, but about $29 at Global Pet Foods (a low-chain pet food store). California Natural isn't sold at Petsmart, but at the two low-chain pet food stores in my city, it goes for about $30. Funny how "expensive" premium foods are compared to Petsmart or Petco low-grade foods

A friend's kid did a science project for high school to see if there really is a difference in the amount a cat poops when eating a higher quality food. He used Purina and IAMS. He carefully weighed the amount the cats pooped every day for a month and LO and BEHOLD, the IAMS cats DID poop less. He even won a free year of IAMS food from IAMS when he told them the results.

My cat Humble eats Prescription c/d feline cat food. I was told that there is very little "crapping" with this, as it is so good they keep most of it.

Shenandoah will ONLY eat wet food and hates the c/d stuff. he RARELY eats it. Shenandoah only likes Fancy Feast. I know, I know, it is not great, but what can I do?

Just wondering Does Humble crap as much. I always hear people say the good stuff is more in the body and less to waste. Just wondering.
