Well Jordan must be stressed, but I can't figure out what's doing it. When he was a kitten, he would get these long Clear strings of mucus in his eye. I talked to his vet & she said most likely he has a herpes virus in his eye & that it will flare up when he stressed. Well lately he's had it again. The mucus is perfectly clear & it doesn't look like there is anything wrong with his eye. (i've seen a lot of eye infections at the shetler) His old vet has left the practice so I'm not really sure who to call, but would you call or just go based on what the old vet (who I trust) said. I'm just wondering if there is anything I can be doing for him?

If it's just a little clear mucus, you don't really need to worry. It probably is a herpes flare, which is viral and can't be treated with antibiotics. If the mucus gets opaque or takes on a funny color, then he should go to the vet for antibiotic eye ointment.

One thing you can do to help him is give him L-lysine supplements. You can either give him a product called Enisyl that you can get from your vet, or crush 1/4 of a human L-lysine supplement pill in his wet food each day. L-lysine interferes with the replication of the herpes virus so it's quite helpful.
