I mentioned in another thread, quite a while ago, that I am moving back to the UK. Well everything is finalised and I leave in 2 weeks time. But this is my dilemma.... what clothes should I bring?????? Most of my clothes would be unsuitable for the UK, so I need to do a bit of shopping. So Ladies, what do you think would be essential for me to have in my wardrobe, and should I do my shopping here or wait until I am in the UK? What shops would you recommend to me? I must add, I love bargain shopping.... Thanks!

I would wait until your back here, unless you want to stock up on basics.

You will need:

V-neck jumpers in various colours

Several pairs of smart jeans

A white shirt

A wrap dress

T-shirts in various colours.

A warm coat!

Try www.topshop.co.uk to see what trends are in.

If you need to do a complete wardrobe re-haul I would reccomend Primark (its dirt cheap!), Newlook and h&m. Asda and Tescos also sells nice clothes now.

What sort of price range are you looking at? cheap, mid or do you have money to burn?

Whats your style etc?

I agree - But... it depends how into fashion you are...

S/A will definitly be cheaper but not quite the same as uk...

Just buy loads of beautiful things that you love before you get here then stock up on cheap bits here.

Definitely!

There are so many various cheap stores and charity shops (where excellent individual items can be found!)

As Nicky mentioned, what style do you wear? It'll help us to think of suitable shops!

I prefer classic styles. I think initially I will be shopping in the cheap to mid range. But for good quality clothes that could last a few seasons I am prepared to spend a bit more. The problem I am having at the moment, is that we still have the summer ranges in our stores. Although I know it is spring in the UK, I had a look at your weather forecast, and it still looks a little chilly! lol Thanks, for the website! At least now I can start to check out styles...

Buy expensive jeans, shoes, trousers, trainers then stock up on the cheap stuff over here. Primark is fantastic for basics and so so so cheap! (oh how I love Primark!).

Topshop is a little too trendy for me.... but it gives you a basic idea

Marks and Spencer, and the Designers at debenhams ranges are good too.(they have websites that you can google)

Where abouts are you going to move too?

Me too!

You should love the shops I mentioned then! lol

I forgot to add that Topshop does a style advisor service for free so you can book an appointment and get a style make over for free!

Debenhmas, Wallis (i think...), Dorothy Perkins, Selfridges and some other places offer these too.

Thanks so much for the advise! I am from Burntwood,Staffs but I haven't lived there since I was 5 years old (except for the occassional holiday). I will be doing some seasonal work up in the Lake District until I decide where I am going to settle.

Hi Julianne! I have a friend in Essex (but DON'T call her an Essex Girl, she goes bats! lol) and I read her your question over the phone (I'm in the States). She giggled and said you could bring back any clothes you want to, so long as you leave that "South African accent" behind. She affected this silly-sounding accent that had me guffawing!

When I visited my friend in 1999, everyone was oohing and ahhing over my "American accent," which I found hilarious because here in the States I've been told I have a midwestern twang. It's funny to think how even in our own countries we can give our origins away.

lol, I will try my best! At least I have an english south african accent, so I sound more like a Aussie. The last time I was in the UK, people kept on thinking I had a american accent??? How they came up with that I have no idea!
