Why'd she punch me in the eye?

I was sleeping the other nite and Z launched herself off the coffee table I use as a nightstand and landed, with one paw, square on my eye. I can't imagine that she did it without aiming. She then sat back on the table and waited for me to wake up and look at her. Which I did, as I'm not accustomed to the punch-in-the-eye alarm clock at the wee hours of the night. She meowed once and ran away.

It kind of hurt, the way you would expect something that weighs about 5 lbs hitting you on your eye with claws would, but I didn't do anything but go back to sleep. She had that look on her face like a toddler who has been caught doing something sooo bad that nobody even knows what to do. Kind of surprised at herself, even, I think.

My question is, what gives? Did my closed eye look like prey? She wasn't mad. She also bats peoples' noses if they snore...

Perhaps you fluttered your eyelashes and she just couldn't help but attack

I am sure she didn't mean to hurt you. Missymotus is probably correct.

About stopping snores, I think you are lucky to have her. You'll have more quiet nights.

Your eye might have been flickering under the lid (like in REM sleep) and she couldn't resist!
