Morning everybody. Cold, snowy day here in Michigan.

Didn't do too much after work last night. Took Tara her Subway and got some of my own, worked out and started to clean up the house a little bit. Organized the bills and realized that I really, really want to get most of them paid off by our honeymoon so we won't be going out a lot anymore and NO MORE SHOPPING!!
Between us we have 2 credit cards, 2 Elder Beerman Cards, Rogers and Hollands card, Kay Jewelers cards, and a Maurices card. Those are just the store cards, not to mention my 2 car payments, house payment, etc.
We just need to really stay focused on using all extra money to pay those cards off and close the accounts so we're not tempted to use them. Any advice on how we can do that?

Have a great Tuesday everybody!!

Oh by the way, we have some pictures of the kitties and hockey games on the computer now so you can all get on Tara to post them up today since she doesn't haveto work.

They only way to not use them is CUT THEM UP!!! Or leave one at home in a safe spot for emergency use only!! Good luck getting those car notes paid off. It seems like the truck payment doesn't get any smaller and then we have the transmission payment too. I hate bills!! The house payment makes me want to cry everytime I write the check out!! There is a lot of shopping I could do with all of that money!

I am just sleepy today. My main focus is staying awake so Tara, Please post those kitty pictures!!!

If you have a visa or mastercard I would get rid of the others. You contact the CC companies to close account and then cut up cards. I would have a visa or mastercard for emergencies.
I know what some people do is subtract the amt they spent with their cc from the checkbook right away.
Pay off the higher interest one first and keep going from there.
Also to save money have more meals at home. Write down all that you spend say for a week to see where your money is going.
Save money every paycheck by paying yourself. (pretend its a bill)
Do either of you have a 401K at work-put some $$ in that-esp if the company matches its free money!!

I need to get setup for our 401K here. I just turned 21 last August so I wasn't eligible before that. I will definetly participate in that though!

Oh if I had lots of money I would share!

Today is the day I find out out how I get back from tax returns! Last year I got about $1,200, so....I'm hoping this year will be the same!

Didn't do much last night - got home and hung out with John for a bit, and then ended up on the couch with Harley - not a very eventful night!

Tonight is the YMCA and then home.... who knows what else will happen!

Today I have an appointment at 10:00 for a commercial landscape job. I have to bid against other companies-EEK!!!! Then get some paint, stop at another landscape job to take pix, do some networking to find more jobs, maybe a bit of retail therapy, go to a fav greenhouse to pick up some brocheres.
But its cloudy and windy today. Thank goodness what I have to do outside for the commercial jobs won't take so long!!

I had major debt before I met my husband. Get rid of all the cards except for 1 or 2. If you don't have the money, don't buy it. Pay off the debt as soon as you can. Basically I either pay cash or debit. I rarely buy anything that I don't have money in my account for.

If you are saving for a honeymoon, I would suggest openning a separate account and both of you putting 10 to 15 dollars in it each week - make it a high interest saving account. It really adds up if you don't touch it. John and I have one account that we rarely touch. Now that we are looking at a new car, we know we have a big chunk of the money we need to buy it, with minimal payments.

It takse discipline, but it is honestly worth it. Right now our only debt is our mortage and soon to be car purchase. Other then that - we are getting ahead of the game! Good luck!

Great advice everybody, thanks!

We do have our 2 major credit cards and they are both getting locked up. All of the other cards are either locked up or destroyed, we are just trying to pay off the debt now.
We make the monthly payments but with their interest rate we aren't getting real far so I just want to pay everything off ASAP and then close the accounts.

Pay about 20 bucks or so extra every time you make a payment. It will all go toward what you owe and not towards interest. It will make the balance go down a whole lot faster!

Just be careful Jason. Mark and I got a loan last year as we were both paying high interest on our cards. We paid them off and closed them. Then I realised how much I'd been spending every week on them, and I didn't have that cash anymore.
Its a big shock to the system. I've had to get another card for emergencies, such as vet bills and car problems because with Mark being a student we just don't have spare cash lying around.
You get into the habit of spending on these things without even realising.

Another idea is applying for a card with 0% interest on balance transfers for say, 9 months. Transfer your existing balance onto it and then everything you pay each month goes purely on your debt! Just remember to cut up your old card...

Thats what happened to us!

I got my credit card when me & John moved into our apartment and cash was tight at first. We ended up using the credit card on just about EVERYTHING. So now, we are going back and paying off the $800 that we owe on my Visa - $200 per paycheck is what we pay, so it'll be paid off soon - but Im glad that Im getting my tax refund back next week - cuz I'm paying off my credit cards with it!

Jason, good luck with those credit cards!

That's what happened to us too. I had a card with $500 max so I couldn't get into a huge hole. When we bought our house, we found out the max was bumped to $1000 so we started buying things for the house that we needed and just spending money very poorly.

Mine has a $800 limit, I'm so glad its not bigger, otherwise I would be in serious trouble!

When I applied, I only did it for $500 and they THEY doubled it because they knew I could make money off of me.
