Hi everyone.
im new to having a cat and this site. my cats name is boc(big orange cat) his about 3 months old and not that small. we got him about 2.5 months ago. when we first got him he was fine. but a week after he started to like my 2 dogs and with one, he sucks on his belly and nuzzels.. trying to get milk.. he will follow my dog around for a long time and is very persistant. My dog growls and he wont listen. but then i would take the cat away from the dog and the cat would try do it to me on my arm and fingers. at first i thought it was cute but now he wont leave me alone.. he is very smoochy anyway.. and i give him lot off attention when he wants.. but he will follow me everywhere and suck on me anywhere he can get too.. its driving me crazy and he even wakes me up in the nite a few times. i dont know why he does this? was he taken away from him mum to early b4 i got him from the pet shop? any ideas?

Thanks heaps everyone.

My girl Stormy does this still and she just had her first birthday. She was taken away from her mom too early at four weeks old. I have asked before and I was told that it is just a way of loving on you and bonding like they did there mom. I know for sure that it has become a habit for her. The way I manage with it is to keep her claws clipped to where she doesnt scratch me when she's going through the motions and just let her nurse away on my neck or chin which ever she chooses. Almost always she will fall asleep on me while I pet her within a few minutes. She did stop doing that as often after she matured a little so there is some hope for the obcessiveness to end. hehe If you absolutly cant stand it I am sure there is some way to get him to stop before it becomes a habit to him like it is with Stormy. I have no idea what that would be though. You might end up like me and deside that you like your little guy loving on you like momma. However it turns out I wish you luck with the little guy.

Well, if he's 3 months old and you got him 2.5 months ago, that means he was taken away from his mommie before he was two weeks old. Which is insanely early! No wonder the poor thing is trying to nurse on everyone. He wasn't even weaned yet, nor should have been. Were you feeding him milk replacement?

Im having this same issue with my 2 boy kittens, they are 4 mths old, got them at 10.5 wks, and they suck each others nipples, doc said bc they were immature. But it has gotten to a point where they suck until the nipples bleed so i had to get them e-collars
I really wish they hurry and grow out of this bc its driving me looney lol

Suckling like that gives them a sense of comfort, and is usaully because they were taken away to early. Some will outgrow it (especially if you discourage it) and some won't. You could try getting a small stuffed animal or small blanket and try to redirect the sucking to that instead, then you kitty gets the comfort he is craving and you and your dog get some sleep.

Spirit will be 5 this year and she sucks on the comforter (while she lays on your throat and purrs), and Sturgis will be 3 this year and sucks on our earlobes till he dozes off at night, and I wouldn't change any of that for the world.

Just about every cat I know that was taken away from their mother too young is very orally fixated. They usually try to find something to suckle on, whether it be another cat, a dog, a blanket, or your clothes. I have seen others that bite anything they come across. My Scarlett (orphaned at 3 weeks) still suckles on our clothes after 4 years. We don't discourage her (it's kind of cute IMO). If you continue to discourage yours, she will grow out of it.

What pet store sold kittens at 2 weeks old? That is absolutely crazy.
