My partner and I are looking to purchase a Red point Himalayan Kitten. We have spent some time looking around and have found one we really liked but this kitten has a long nose. After doing much research I can't seem to find any details on long nosed Himalayans and I wonder how its parents who were both short nosed, produced a long nosed baby. Do you think there would be anything wrong with this kitten and would it have the same breathing problems as the short nosed Himalayans. Is it classified as a full breed Himalayan? I am not interested in showing the cat but I would like a healthy pure breed.

Do the red point himalayan cats suffer from deafness or blindness with the blue eyes?

Pictures of the kitten on the below link:

please add one more w onto the front of the link - if I paste the whole link it won't work for some reason.

I appreciate any feedback. Thanks!!
Amanda

Picture is not showing on my screen.

However, its possible for it to happen with 2 short nose persians. Its probably a throw back kitten - nothing wrong with it, other then its not show quality - its pet quality.

If you only want a pet and the breeder is not a backyard breeder, then adopt him. You want to be sure the breeder has gotten the kitten its first shorts, the kitten is healthy (no runny nose, eye problems, no ear mites). The breeder should also have a contract that specifies spaying/neutering at a certain age.

The blue eyes of a himalayan are from the siamese - so you don't have any deafness or eye problems. Unless there is a blue-eyed white or bicolor in the background, the deaf gene will not be there. With a little longer nose, you should have less breathing problems IF the cat is from healthy parents to begin with.

Ohh she is soooo cute! We have her older twin sister by the way
My moms purebred flame-point himmie is named Emma. Looks identical to yours! I think there are different styles of Himalayans just like Siamese and other breeds. Some persians and himalayans have the extreme flat face and some have the doll face like yours.

Thanks for your replies. We think she is soo cute too! We have decided to buy her and call her Meeka. She seems to be coming from a very good breeder who has lovely cats. The red point Himalayans have beautiful colour to them!!

Thanks again

I figured out why the pic didn't show. I looked at the cat. It doesn't have a "long nose" in my opinion - just not an extreme short one. Its pet quality and very nice looking. I'm sure you will be happy with her.

She is doll faced instead of the classic flat face. She is exactly that, a doll. Meeka is a cool name too.
