I have two females (neutered), one is 10, the other 8. All of a sudden, on Saturday night, Peepers (10) began hissing and growling at Eliza (8). I have no idea why this started up - they're both indoor cats and neither has escaped or gone out. Right now they're in a stalemate and avoiding each other, but I want us to be a happy family again. Any ideas on how I can reconcile my girls?

Suddenly Hissing

When there is a sudden change in behavior, the first thing to check out is health issues. Unfortunately, the health issue (if it is that) could be either of them - either Peepers is feeling ill and more defensive since she knows she is vulnerable, or Eliza is ill and Peepers views her as an invading new cat because she smells differently.
