I didn't know where to put this....

Damita gives herself a bloddy nose everytime she travels in a carrier(which is a lot-3 days a week). She won't be going to the HS until she is done with her ringworm meds, so I have a few weeks. I wanted to buy a soft sided carrier for her & Chico to ride to the HS in. Any ideas where to order one online. The cheapest they ahd at the pet store dort of near me was $30. I am thinking in the $15 range.

If you buy one make sure to get some large safety pins. All my cats are experts at escaping the soft carriers (they just push the zippers open). The zipper flap on the top is especially easy to open as they just push their head into it. Before I know it there are crazy kitties loose in the car. This was solved by safety-pinning the top flap shut and just using the front opening to get them out (they never figured out how to open that one).

well, i have 3 soft-sided carriers, but i think they were closer to the $30 price range than the $15. i got 2 of them at a place that i can't remember, but the third was from MamaMeow - this link takes you there. it's $26.95 plus tax. hope that helps!

I have one, I will post a picture of it tonite when I get home.
It is more bag-like but it is specifically for cats, has mesh sides.
I would be glad to sell it to you if you are interested. I only used it once and it has sat in my closet ever since. I believe it is identical to this but purple and no cat print on it. http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...N=2033663&Ne=2

I don't need it at all and I am kind of hard up for cash right now anyways

I will check on it and its specific size when I get home.

Ok my digicam is out of batteries (it isn't a charable one) I gotta get batteries tomorrow and I will put up a picture. I had it all set up today, I even put one of my cats in it so you can see how they sit in it and get a better idea of the size. But oh well. I will post a picture of it tomorrow if you are interested.

I saw a few recently at PetSmart that were on sale around $15-$20. I don't know if they have the same item on sale in every store though.

You could also try looking for really small dog carriers. The pet stores here usually have a larger selection for dogs than for cats, I've noticed, and they tend to look nicer.

I did a fair amount of research when I was purchasing a soft sided carrier for Oliver and most are in the $30 range... I got mine from PetSmart for about that price - it's black and looks like the samsonite one I always see around just generic (I got it over a year ago so I dont have the packaging and its not written on the carrier anywhere)... it opens on one end and the top flap and Ollie has never managed to open either by himself (I always have him harnessed and leashed and the leash attached to the leash hook inside anyway, just in case)... I know you're trying to save money, but DEFINITELY follow the weight guidelines listed on the packaging for whatever carriers you're looking at... Oliver's 15 pounds so I couldnt get like the smallest (and in turn cheapest) carrier available... the weight guidelines are definitely there for a reason - no sense risking your kitty's safety to save a few bucks in my mind.... good luck in your search!

Buzby, I have been looking at all of the weight guidelines. That is where I am running into a problem. I don't know what Damita weighs(under 10#, I think). I am thinking that it might just be best to get a soft sided carrier Damita fits into & then I can transport Chico seperately, but when Damita gets adopted, I would like to be able to use the carrier for Lily & Twitch.

I like the one from Collections, Inc. That's a really good price for a carrier for pets up to 22 lbs.

I have one concern with some of the carriers. They have a head whole for you pet to stick it's head out. Is there a way to close that off in most carriers? Damita will do anything to get out of a carrier/cage. Well, I don't know if she just can't see the "bars" on cages/carriers or if she really wants out.

I don't have a Petco or Petsmart anywhere near me. I checked at the small pet store near me, they don't have any. Pet Expo(the next nearest pet store) doesn't have anything in terms of a carrier other than $50 fancy ones. I don't need fake jewels on it.
They have the soft sided dog crates, but I don't think it would be easy to carry one of those.

you can order online from both petco & petsmart, you'll just have to pay shipping. you can also order the one i posted from MamaMeow. any of those will still run you about $30, but [speaking for the MamaMeow one] i find it easy to carry - it has handles plus a shoulder strap. there's a strap on the inside that you can clip to the animal's collar if necessary. none of mine have found a way out of it...& Chip REALLY tried the day i brough him home, especially after he had the bowel movement

Do you have a Big Lots in your area? They have some nice Samsonite soft-sided pet carriers for $18. They even have a soft bed in the bottom, and straps to pass the seatbelt through to hold the carrier safely in a car seat. They're a bit cramped for a really large cat, but just fine for average-sized or small cats.

Just a quick thought on determining your kitty's weight... you've got two options to do it easily (that I can recall) 1. most vets will allow you to pop in and borrow their scale for a sec without making an appointment 2. (and the better option for kitties that get stressed making a trip to the vet and more convenient for you) put yourself on your bathroom scale (yeah i know, it's not gonna be fun right at the end of winter with bikini season coming up, haha but do it) note your weight. Then go grab your kitty and step on the scale with him/her in your arms and note the new weight... the difference between the two weights will give you a relatively good estimate of your kitty's weight... I tried it with Oliver once right after a vet visit and found that the weight taken in the office and the weight I got with that second method were exactly the same... easy way to keep tabs on your kitty's weight too!

These two methods will take out the guessing on what weight limits with carriers you need to look out for...

I will have to bring the scale downstairs so I can weight Damita. Too bad she won't sit on it herself. That would save me some embarassment!
