Hi, Tuffy was a stray that was outside in a campground when I found him. He sits in the window for hours watching the world go by but he seems not to want to go outside anymore. When I carry him outside with me so he can get outside for a while he acts like he wants to go back in the house.

Does this mean he is happy here or is he affraid that I will dump him off someplace like I think happened to him before? I am glad he likes me enough to want to stay here and not run off, but I wonder why he don't want to go outside anymore. Or could it be because he was so sick when he was outside before? Or could it be he would go outside on his own terms if he could?

I am just trying to understand how there minds work a little better.

I'd say he's seen what it's like to be indoors and is perfectly happy to stay that way.

My two have always been indoor cats from being kittens so they don't know any different, but if i open the door to anyone they run up to their room.

I hear that, Rusty and Panther have been house cats all there life and they have a total fit if they have to go outside to the vet or what ever. But the girl cats Missy and Angel like to go outside. A few years ago Missy would go out on nice summer days and then in the middle of the night she would climb the screen on the bedroom window out side and raise heck till I would go to the door and let her back in but since she is getting older she hardly ever goes out any more. Angel has been a inside cat to since she was small but she sneaks out all the time, she don't go far thank god and stays away from the road. She goes out and rolls around in the dirt and grass for a while than wants to come back in.

Maybe if Tuffy was the only cat here he would want to go out side, but maybe with all the other cats here he is happy.

Thats typical isn't it!.

It's good to hear Tuffy is content with being indoors though, and probably thinks " I'm not going back out there again, i know where i'm better off!"

Maverick is an indoor cat through her own choice. She would much rather be around people and be indoors than off exploring.
