Kitten Weight

At birth, weight should be approx 3-3.4 ounces.

At age 1 week weight should be approx. 4 ounces.

At age 2 weeks, weight should be approx. 7 ounces.

At age 3 weeks, weight should be approx. 10 ounces.

At age 4 weeks weight should be approx. 13 ounces.

At age 5 weeks, weight should be approximately 1 pound.

By the end of the 8th week, kittens should weigh approximately 2.2 pounds

Breech births in kittens are fairly common. They happen approximately 50% of the time and as far as I know, do not have any specific health issues linked to them. Breech births are harder on the Momma cats due to the larger rib cage coming out backwards.

At 3 weeks, anywhere from 8-14 ounces would be within normal limits. How much they weigh is not so important but how steadily they are gaining gives much more information about their overall health. A healthy kitten should gain approximately 0.3 ounces or 8 grams per day. Some days they'll gain less and some days they may gain more, but a kitten who fails to gain or who loses weight is in trouble and needs to see a vet right away. A kitten who is gaining weight is almost always a healthy kitten.
