So we went out of our way to buy Tak this cozy little cat bed, as she's always stuck sleeping on all of our stuff on the desk. Watching her spine reconfigure to accomodate my textbooks makes me feel guilty...

A nice, soft, cozy bed. We cleaned the desk, and put it where she always sleeps. And now, she's sleeping on the EDGE of the desk, near the bed, but not in it.

I tried putting some of her treats in it, but she went in, grabbed them, and jumped out.

I don't see how this bed is any different from the boxes she always sleeps in!

Any clues on how to show her how great this bed can be? It's just silly... but maybe you have some ideas?

Hmm, maybe becuz the bed is new, it smells funny to her so maybe she's wary of it? Sorry I can't be of better help but Im sure other members can
offer better service.

Someday Tak will decide to sleep on the bed. Just be patient. Oh, and after a few weeks even months of use, Tak will sleep somewhere else. Cats are like that.

Look at what I found this morning:

Apparently all the persuading in the world isn't as affective as just leaving her alone... haha

I think everyone gets their first kitty a pet bed to soon realize they won't touch it!
But its rare for cats to really enjoy their beds. Boxes adn things that are in the way are much more attractive. They like to be in the mix of things.

It is my first time buying a pet bed for a kitty of mine. My mom's cat LOVES her little cat bed and sleeps in there all the time.

I mostly felt bad that Tak had no real place to sleep on our desks (she's always here because we spend lots of time in the computer room). It also led to things being knocked off and misplaced.

So she seems to be using it for now, we'll see how long it lasts...

My cats used to ignore their beds, until I put them up high on furniture - now they love them and use them a lot.

Don't put them in the bed, or they'll naturally resist - getting in the bed has to be their idea. If they like catnip, a little sprinkle will encourage them to investigate it, and perhaps have a nap in it.

Perhaps because they're seniors, my cats prefer nicely padded surfaces to hard surfaces now for sleeping, unless it's really hot - then they'll stretch out on the tile floor.

The beds that are the most popular with my cats are the ones that have a terry, faux-suede, or cotton fleece texture - the faux-sheepskin ones only get used in really cold weather. The first terry bed I brought home was an instant hit - I guess that makes sense, considering I have to close the cats out of the room whenever I fold a load of clean towels.

I had to go back out and get more terry beds for the rest of the cats because they were fighting over the terry one.

my cat used to always sleep in his bed, then in the morning he'd sleep with us. He stopped sleeping in there... It seems like every week he has a new spot to sleep in. I've tried to get him to his cat bed, but he doesn't look interested in it. I try not to force him to sleep there though. I think he just likes to explore and find new places to hide, sleep, and play.

I've learned that cats will sleep wherever they want, depending on their mood/fancy. One week, their donut bed will be flavour of the week, the following week, it will be the radiator bed, the week after that, it will be their igloo, or our bed, or the sofa or the bathroom sink. It's just the way it goes

I've learned that too. When we got Harley, I got him a really cute fuzzy bed that I thought he'd love as a kitten - but he didnt touch it at all, so I returned it!

He's always sleeping somewhere different!

I wish he'd sleep in a cute little bed, at least I think it would be more comfortable than the floor!

Hi, I got one of those oval shaped beds for our cats also. It was one that came with cat nip that goes in a pouch in the bottom of it. Rusty would try like heck to get the cat nip out but wouldn't sleep in it. I had it in different places on the floor. So one day I put it on top of Yvonne's ceader [sp?] chest and they all take turns sleeping in it.

I have noticed also that they seem to change sleeping places every so often. Angel is the only one who is almost always at my feet in our bed at night. She has different places for her naps during the day though.

Tuffy has a set routine almost every night. He starts out in the living room in the recliner, then the dinning room for a while then he comes into the bedroom by us and sleeps in a old antique rocking chair next to my side of the bed. Then at about 5:00 to 5:30 in the morning he is in the window on my computer table watching the sunrise I guess lol. Or maybe there are birds at the feeder that time every morning or something is going on that he is at the window every morning at that same time.

The other 3 I never know where to find them most of the time. Angel is at the foot of our bed right now and Tuffy is in the recliner, if Tuffy is on time he should be in the rocking chair in about a hour.

I have allot of trouble sleeping at night so I am up watching tv most of the time so I get to watch where they go and when. Allot of the time if I sleep in the afternoon I will have Kelsey [our dog], Rusty, Angel, Panther, and Tuffy all on the bed with me. Missy tends to want to be by herself most of the time.

Tigger goes through phases where she will sleep in her bed, and then sleep near it, then sleep on the other end of the patio from it, and then back in it again....
Each phase can last up to 3-4 weeks before she changes.....

Wash the bed in the regular laundry (with some towels). After its all dry (from the dryer), sprinkle a bit of catnip in it and see if she uses it.

Mine ALL love those soft round beds and I've never had a cat not use it (unless it was dirty or smelly).

Some cats just don't like sleeping in beds. Maybe try giving her a box with a towel in it. If she likes sleeping in it, why change it? To be honest, in the over 20 cats I've owned, only a few of them liked cat beds.

It was worth a shot, though!! Ya never know til you try.

An update on Tak and her bed:

After that last picture I posted, I never saw her use that bed again!

So I moved it off the desk and into the hallway, the exact place where she usually sleeps at night. I woke up the other morning to find her curled up in it. And the next morning she was halfway in. And today when I came home she was in there. Simon got a good laugh last night, watching her roll onto her back and squirm partway out of the bed, then fall back asleep.

So I think she really likes the bed! Placement is definitely key!

My indy was forever sleeping in a basket of clean laundry and then I would have to wash all the top items again because I wear mostly black and she shed gray on everything. I even got her a laundry basket of her own and eventually I "fooled" her into sleeping in it by putting clean towels in it. Just for effect I even "yelled" at her once in a while for being in it. She caught on after a while though, she really was smart for her own good. They are just good and contrary. it might work if you put a book or a piece of clothing in it, then they think it is actually not meant for them to sleep in and voila! they will sleep in it.
