She was 85 years old and in a company flanked by men in 1959 she brought to life her idea of an adult doll for older girls to play with. What an empire she created, and how many wonderful memories she made along with all those dolls.

The end of an era.

I hope someone does a really good biography of her. I think she's very interesting and a great role model, just as much as Estee Lauder or Mary Kay Ash.

That is too bad. I had a book when I was younger about her, and how she created Barbie. It was kinda like a biography with lots of pictures of different Barbie dolls. Like sunlion said, and end of an era. She truly brought something great to this world! I have thousands of memories of playing with my Barbie's because of her.

Really sad that she passed away. I collect Barbies, and I hope that there will be a good commemorative Barbie honoring her. She really revolutionized how girls played with dolls, going from just being able to be a mommy to a baby doll to being able to be anything as Barbie.

She actually named Barbie after her daughter and Ken after her son. How cool would that be to know that millions of girls around the world play with something named after you?

I loved my Barbies. My sister used to bite off all of their toes and fingers. She was horrible - Their shoes never fit!
