Hello, My name is Cathy and I am the proud owner of nine cats and four dogs. Actually, they pretty much own me. They are a lot of work but well worth it. I have two special needs kitties...one who is 13yrs old with cerebellar hypoplasia and a 17mo. old kitty with a liver shunt. I came across this site while searching for information about cats who have had surgery for liver shunts. My shunt kitty, as the vet calls him, Scooter, is the love of my life and I cannot imagine losing him. It absolutely terrifies me. Have been through so much with him since day one. We manage his problem with a special diet and medications and he does pretty good unless he gets into regular cat food which will cause a seizure. I am planning to have the shunt repaired in a few months and would love to hear from anyone who has had success with this operation on their cat.

Welcome from another NC member. I have an adorable little Scooter, too. I don't have any info on the operation on your kitty, but would like to wish him good luck, and a quick recovery. You came to the right place, TCS vibes are very strong when we all pull together for our furry members.

I am always glad to welcome new members from NC.
You have a nice family of fur friends. I hope you find someone to talk to about the liver shunt kitty. I am sure there must be someone here who has dealt with this problem.
I wish you the best with this special needs kitty.

Darn it! I wish I had remembered we had a TCS member from Wilmington! I took Fluffy to the Humane Society there yesterday, and ended up sitting in my car at the HS office most of the day reading and napping. We could have met for coffee or something. I have never actually met another member, and would love to. Maybe another time. I am from Jacksonville.
