A terrible tragedy has happened today. I was gone for the day visiting my sister, when I got home I found Lily dead in my basement. I don't know what happened to her she was fine this morning. I took her in last spring, she was the neighbors cat and they weren't taking care of her at all. She was very shy and I eventually won her trust. When I took her in I discovered that she was pregnant. She gave birth to 4 beautiful kittens on July 14, 2005. I got her fixed and didn't let her outside. She was only 2 years old. When I found her this evening it looked like she had just gone to sleep. I can't help but feel that if I had been here I could have done something. She was so sweet, I don't understand why she's gone.

(((hugs)))

I'm really sorry for your sudden loss of your sweet Lily. At least she passed peacefully. Reminds me of Beth from Little Women (if you've read that book.....) - as in, sometimes the sweetest, kindest, gentlest of creatures aren't with us for very long, but touch our lives in the most beautiful way. Regardless of how long she was with you, she will live on in your heart forever.

May Lily Rest in peace at the meadows & streams of the Rainbow Bridge

Oh, it is so hard when things happen suddenly. I'm sure she must have had some underlying health condition to be gone so suddenly. Thank you for taking her in so she could have her kittens in peace, and be loved by you.

Rest in peace, Lily!

I'm so sorry for your loss. I just lost my Blackjack yesterday .. perhaps he and your sweet Lily are romping together now. I know the pain you are feeling and I share in your loss. She was lucky to find someone as kind as you to take her in and care for her and her babies.

Thanks everyone. I buried her this morning by the spot in my fence she used to sneak through. The pain in my heart today is so horrible, it's almost unbearable.

It's so hard to lose one so young and so suddenly,
but don't beat up on yourself for being gone. Since she looked like she was just sleeping, she went peacefully, probably in her sleep. She's now your angle at the Rainbow Bridge.

Were you able to keep one (or more) of her kittens?

Rest in peace, sweet Lily.

I actually kept all 4 kittens, they are so sweet and loving just like their mom was. I still can't help but think if I had been home, things would have been different. It's eating me up inside. I just can't seem to get past it.

Susanmly, please don't blame yourself.
You rescued her, cared for her, loved her, and are taking good care of her kittens. You were there for her. You didn't know anything was wrong.

RIP sweet Lily.

Condolences on your loss of Lily. Unless her condition was trauma or poisoning, there was a good chance that it was incurable. And it could be that she waited till you left, to let her spirit cross to the Other Side - going quietly, without causing you undue stress. Please try to comfort yourself knowing that she went to the other side of RB with a name, a family to mourn her & the comfort of knowing that her babies are safe - what a wonderful gift you gave her.
