Funny behavior...what could it mean?

I have a sweet little calico named Weenie. She has this very strange habit. She does not typically meow at all. But every day she grabs my hair scrunches from my upstairs bedroom and carries them in her mouth and down the stairs. She cries the entire time. Then she deposits them at the bottom of the stairs. She never grabs them from any other room and never carries them beyond the bottom of the stairs. Any guesses why she does this?

Very typical female cat behaviour! Mine has a fake fur mouse she talks to, carries into the living room (and I replace every day where she'll find it) and wails (small weird wails). We're not exactly sure if she's showing us she went hunting and so it's time to eat, or if she's presenting babies to us, or what it's about, but lots of females do it with whatever they can find that's appropriate.

I wonder if its because she had a litter of stillborn babies...?

It very well could be possible.
How long ago was it? If it was days/weeks, her hormone levels are probably still telling her to be a mommy.

I would like to say though that this behavior is not just a female thing, my boys all do this with favorite toys as well as my girls do.

My 3yr old female does that with her feather wand. Her wails can be so strange that they're eerie, and kind of spook me out when it's nighttime and my husband isn't home.

Its been years since she lost the babies. I have five cats 2 girls, 3 boys. And she's the only one that does it. Its funny though, each one has some special behavior about them. I have one cat that will only let you pet him when you are in the bathroom. I love them all. Just wish I could get the pet hair under control. Hey, that sounds like another posting

This is your baby being very proud of "killing" your scrunchies. Our Sunny loves to steal my daughter's stuffed animals and carry them down the stairs to present them to us as her "kills" and meows proudly and struts the whole time. It's ADORABLE!!

The funny thing is that the kitty doesn't have to have been outdoors EVER in their life to do this (as Sunny's never stepped FOOT outside, and neither have most of my cats, and most of them have done this). I think it's instinctual behaviour. Another thing I've noticed is that female kitties do it more than males. Wonder why?

This might have something to do with their wild relatives. I know that female lions are generally the "hunters" of the group. I wouldn't be surprised if that worked its way down into our little lions.

Ya know...I didn't think of that! Yeah, that makes sense.
Good thinking!

Sibohan has a couple toys she does this with. She had been a mother befor she was rescued. They never found her kittens and Sibohan was almost starved. She treats everything as her baby even to the point of bringing the "selected" toy over to the food dish with her. She also treats Duke like a kitten and cleans him expecially his head and ears. It's a mothering instinct, but as long as it's not harmful I don't see anything wrong with it.
