Hi Everyone,

I just commited to helping out at a local cat (no kill) shelter.
I LOVE & ADORE cats and thought about doing something like this for a while now. My local shelter had a short story in a local paper and it got me thinking........ I don't work on Fridays so I figured I can offer some time.
The lady was thrilled and tomorrow morning I will give her a few hours. I went in today and they have about 30 cats!! 2 just delivered kittens in the last 3 days and another is expecting.. All except one are super friendly. 1 is feril and will need a bit of work. Apparently she get ALL her cats ready for adoption.. I am so excited to be doing this....Only, I may wind up with another cat...My cat Gorby is pretty sick so I don't want to stress him out but at somepoint, I'm sure I will have another one.
She even has a room she rotates cats in so they are out of the cages...You can really see the wonderful love & attention she gives for these cats.
I'm so grateful to be doing this...
Judith

Hi guys,

Well this morning I went for the first time.. It was total grunt work & I Loved every second of it. This shelter has about 40 to 50 cats of all kinds. AND not including 3 cats JUST had babies...
I was helping to clean all the cages and feed them and their is one room that is free roaming.. that was the most fun.. Try picking up rugs & beds with cats everyplace!! Of course I fell in love with the one who is not a well cat.
Not contagious but it had 5 brothers & sisters that all passed from the owner giving it animal brains & scraps from a butcher which caused the cats to develope this brain desiese. I forget the name.
The cat is called One Eye.. Yep it only has one eye and it is the sweetest cat I have ever seen. I just tore at my heart strings. It was sitting on my shoulder and just purring and cuddling. She is a very tiny adult cat. If she is around for a few month and seems to not be getting sick.. I may have to take her home...
Only negitive I see is I'm now wheezing a bit. Hope that wont be a problem...
I have asthma but 90% of the time my own cats don't bother me. This was kitty overload!!
I will keep you all posted.. Thank you,
Judith

Wonderful! When I get my drivers' license, I am thinking of volunteering at the shelter 60 miles from here...

no doubt this was kitty overload
I hope your asthma doesnt play up too much.
I think that would be my trouble with volunteering at a shelter - I would want to bring them all home

love to hear your updates on how it all goes

Wow, what a fab thing to be doing, fingers crossed that your asthma clears up. I wanted to help at a local shelter that has animals other than cats, but I foster, and after a couple of weeks really struggled to find the time to fit everything in. Maybe when I get a car.
