I just adopted a new kitty a couple of days ago and he talks all the time. He won't stop until I acknowledge him in some way. I give him lots of attention but if I turn my attention away for more than a minute he'll start crying again. I live in an apartment and he always goes to my front door and cries really loud. Is there any way to stop this behavior? Is this just because he's still adjusting to my home? He is 7 months old and I don't know what kind of home he came from... whether or not I took him from his brothers and sisters... or whether or not he was allowed to roam outside I don't know. I feel bad leaving my apartment for any amount of time because I can hear him inside wailing at the door. It breaks my heart every time I have to leave. I was considering adopting a playmate for him but I don't know if this will help at all. I was thinking he would be happier in my apartment if he had a friend but I'm not sure if this will cure all the crying or not. Please help me!!

Is he fixed? There could be a female in heat outside and he can smell her. He is calling her to come and get it! LOL Cats do like a playmate, I always tried to get a pair when I first got pets. Just make sure to get them fixed and keep up their shots.

Do not give in and let him outside as many kitties are hit by cars, poisoned, attacked by other cats and dogs, and there is always some sicko ready and willing to take away your baby too.

I am sure other will have some advice for you too!

Good Luck

Did you buy some cats toys for him that he can amuse himself.
I have indoor outdoor cats and they will sit by the door when they wat to go outside.
Have you taken this kitten to the vet to rule out any illnesses??
When this cat meows try ignoring it this will be hard but by responding the the meows you are reinforcing the behavior!! Reward when the kitten is quiet.
You might have to try short term and anti-anxiety medication. Perhaps this kitten is missing the prior owner or companion.
I would recommend purchasing this book-Outwitting Cats by Wendy Christian.
It may provide additional clues for you. Plus its a good general cat book!!
