Lost in thoughts of quills...
Okay, so I have never been to the dentist (parents at fault not me..lol) and I know I will be going soon. So I have a few questions for you guys.....

Is it really as bad as I think it is (please don't scare me with dentist stories) and do they have to use needles before the gas? My grandparents can't really tell me much because they can't remember much but the bad dentist experiences. I'm real freaked about it. I know I have to get braces, so what's that like? How long do I have to wear them? I might have to have 1 tooth removed. Is that really painful?

Thanks in advance guys! Everyone here has been so nice.

Dentists really aren't that scary! They are a lot more understanding than they used to be!

Getting a fixed brace is the most boring process to go through, takes SO long!! It will feel okay for the first day you have it, but the next day will be agony, as it's pulling your teeth
It does ease, but then they will tighten it again

It's really well worth it though!!

I've never had an adult tooth removed (luckily) and the only one I have had was a broken baby tooth that was just partly attached!

Just try to keep yourself relaxed and tell your dentist if you are feeling uncomfortable (they should give you a breather for a while)

Good luck!

Thank you. You made me feel a little better about the whole thing. I'm not worried too much about the braces hurting, but I'm so freaked about the needle in the mouth. The thought of it just gives me chills! Oh, I forgot I have a cavity too. What's it like getting rid of one of those?

I don't know what it's like to have a filling either! I'm sure someone will be able to tell you about those!

I hate needles too - especially in my mouth!
Luckily I've only had to have one needle and that was for my broken tooth when I was about 7!

I'm sure it will go really well for you!
Just think of all your friends on TCS and I'm sure you'll be fine!! (either that or think about our Bubble Paper conundrum!
)

Thank you for you help.
I'll post how it goes and tell you all how it went. Though I have no idea when I'm going, so it could be a while.

I have one filling from when I tried to crack open a peach pitt with my tooth (ironic huh?!).

The needles dont hurt at all, and they numb your mouth so well you can't feel a thing.

The filling feels a bit 'big' for the first day or two but then you forget about it.

Ask in advance if you want a white rather than a metal filling.

Its tiny and thin, you dont feel it at all.

its no worse than biting your tounge!

If your scared, ask to visit a dentist who specialises in nervous patients.

You guys are making me feel much better!!!
Thank you so much!!!

Okay, I think I can stand bitting my tongue on the roof of my mouth. Doesn't sound too bad now.

Of coarse you know now that you have mentioned Bubble Paper that's all I will be thinking of when I'm there.

I am going to tell you about my honests experiences!! Don't be scared, they aren't bad or I would never go back and I go twice a year!!!
Needles: It pinches. Try pinching your arm not too hard, that is kinda what it feelis like. It doesn't last long either. I usually have to have a few shots of numbing stuff because I don't respond well to it.Be careful when you leave about eating. Don't eat until you are thawed out or you risk biting you tongue or lip or cheeks severly because you cant feel it.

Braces: I wore them for 3 years. The works part is when they tighten them every month. Its sore and it hurts to eat normal food but that goes away in a day or two. If you follow the dentists orders on the braces you won't have to wear them for as long.

You will do fine at the dentist!!! Good Luck!!

Fillings: I have 4 or 5 fillings. You don't feel much as they are drilling. A little heat and a little pressure but otherwise its the sound that my bother you. I can't ever feel mine after I leave.

The gas makes you fall asleep. I have only had the gas once and I don't remember falling asleep or waking up really. I remember the doctor and my dad putting me in the truck to go home... that was when I had 4 widsom teeth cut out. Didn't feel a thing until after.
