Well, even though the vet told us our skinny stray was 5 weeks pregnant, now 6 weeks later she isn't. When I was curious about her odd behaviors about 3 weeks ago - I think now she was in heat. She's exhibiting those behaviors again.
We took her to the vet to see if she had mites - we think she did but they couldn't find them. Because of the symptoms, we're going to treat anyway.
Anyhow, while we were there we checked on the whole pregnancy issue to find out if they were in there and dead or what. No sign of anything. Who knows???? Maybe at 3 1/2 pounds they were feeling something that isn't normally obvious? Or, I dunno.
Anyways, after finally accepting the shock that she was pregnant and wrapping our minds around the idea of having kitties, we are now wrapping our minds around the new reality. Good for her. Good for the cat population. Glad we didn't sell our 4 year old (or even really talk about the possibilities) on having kittens.
So, good news.... We can now use the money that we would have spent on spaying the kittens for a donation to the local shelter (humane society or no-kill - that's the question).
Once we're done treating the mites, she's going in for her spaying so that she won't have to suffer through heat cycles.
Thank you all for your help. You were extremely supportive through what was a difficult time for me.
Bless you all and best of luck with your cats and kittens....
