OK, Fred has been doing pretty well for the most part. He's about 10 or so weeks old and he's adjusting well. He's only had 2 accidents peeing on my bedspread. I've washed it, but maybe it now has his smell. I've noticed that he doesn't always cover up his stuff after he's through using the litter box. Parker, my 1.5 yr old cat, goes in after and covers his stuff usually.

I'm a little worried because I read in a book that kittens that aren't covering their stuff will have future litter box problems. I've neither found nor smelled other accidents beyond the bedspread. Should I worry.

The other thing I've been noticing is that Parker is now grooming Fred. Fred tries to play with her sometimes during these moments and sometimes she grabs him around the neck with her pays and kicks him a little with her back feet. He does this same this with a stuffed animal --- is this like treatment of prey? Should I worry about Fred? He doesn't cry out when she does this and he is not frightened of her. Am I worried for nothing?

Sorry I'm so long winded, but I'm a worried new mom!

It's pretty common for a cat not to cover it's poop. Sometimes they just don't care or they were never taught by thier mothers. They can sometimes change when they get older. However, it's never lead to litter box problems.
With the kicking, it's not really a prey thing. They do this when they are playing. I don't think I would be concerned unless the lil' one is getting hurt.

My Fred is the oldest and grooms all the others. He has raised every other kitten we have ever had, including using the litterbox. It sounds like Parker is just being a good Papa cat.
