Only for my sneakers that I wear to the gym. Anything else is sneakers.

And as a NYer, it was soda all the way. I never heard anyone say pop unless they were from the midwest.

Me, Eileen! That is probably because we wore them in gym class as not to ruin the wooden floor of the basketball court.

I call the shoes tennis shoes.

The drink I call "pop." I thought it was usually "soda" east of the Mississippi and "pop" west of it.

I know its pop here in ohio, but in PA its usually soda.... I thought pop was a midwest thing and most of us are east of the mississippi
I once did a quiz on if you're a yankee or rebel and how we call the same things different names- it was neat and I came out a Midwesterner- go figure!!

Another Canadian here, voting for running shoes, or runners.

Sneakers are a very specific type of shoe, canvas upper, flat rubber sole, with 2 or 3 eyelets and short laces. Keds are sneakers. Sneakers are a sub-set of runners.

Odd eh ?
I think we called them bumpers because they had a thick rubber rim round the edge of the sole which looked like the rim of a bumper car.

You call 'em dodgems over there so i guess you could call 'em dodgems

When I was a kid (back in the Dark Ages) they were running shoes. Sometime in my teens, they seem to have changed to sneakers, and that's remained the generic name for any variety of rubber soled, fabric upper, sport/casual footwear.

(Oh, and either "pop" or "soft drink")
