I don't think "acallin" is a word but forgive me, I have a headache.......

I'm sitting here in my nighty, snuggled on the sofa with the kits, watching tv and the front doorbell goes off. Well, I don't know about your kits, but
they all scatter in 4 different directions........(they are terrified of that doorbell I found out)
Well, after I recovered from their rapid departure, I got up and sneaked over to the door to see who it was. It was a guy in a suit holding some phamplets, so I didn't open it. Am I the only one that doesn't open the door for people I don't know?

I will not open the door for people I do not know, unless of course they are wearing a UPS, USPS or FedEx uniform.

Your four sound like mine! When the doorbell rings they're outta there!

I'm the same way. I never open the door for people I don't know. I think it's just common sense, especially if you're home alone or live by yourself. It's a shame we have to feel like we can't trust people, though.

We never answer the door if we don't know the person

Both of us peek out the blinds in our master bathroom because the window is right next to the front door. We just watch them until they leave. It's actually kind of fun

I did get a little irritated once though. A Jehovah's Witness came knocking on our door, we didn't answer but then the man saw my soon-to-be stepson playing outside and walked over to talk to him. I was outside in a second then. I didn't know who he was at the time, but I let him know I didn't appreciate him approaching the kid.

I have a loud and very scarey sounding dog, he'll start barking visciously as soon as someone steps up onto the doorstep.
Most people knock very timidly after that

lucky you!
Mine absolutely love the door bell and love to investigate who is there! Usually it only rings because there is a parcel so its playtime for them

At my parents house that is how we always got away with out talking to them. No one seems to be very afraid of little Brody though... I don't know why, I think he looks vicious.

I wouldn't open the door either. I tend not to if I am home alone, but if John is there then I will and shoo them away and tell them not to come back. I never do business over the phone or at the door if the "come acallin"

I think the problem is ladies, and tell me if you agree, that you just dont' know who you can trust??????? I mean, they can look perfectly legit, but then push you in the door, pull a gun on you, etc. You just never know. We can't live our lives paranoid though........to me, they're just basically pests, (you know, kind of like our Wyan)
I know they have a job to do, but I don't want either of us wasting the others time.......

We love ya Ryan....you know that!

The cats house, we just pay the mortgage..
We live on the top floor, where you virtually need an oxygen mask and a tissue for your nose bleed so we very rarely get people knocking at the door unless they are lost and looking for a different flat, or we know them.
I feel very threatened if I see an unfamiliar face through the peep hole and don't answer because it could be anyone and nobody would be able to hear me if I had to shout.
I never used to answer the door at my Mums if the window cleaner came because it meant I would have to give him money
. One time I walked out of my en suite after being in the shower, totally naked, and the WC was at my bedroom window so I ran into my sisters room and there was one at her window too! I ran out and hid in the hallway and ignored the doorbell when they rang it.

Nope, I don't answer it especially if I know they are selling something. Just the other day a group of people in suits and dresses came to the door, they even saw that I was in the house, but I still didn't answer it.

In our old house, we had a screen door and always kept it locked. A gal selling magazines or something knocked and I opened it. We had a big lab and he was barking his head off - I didn't bother to quiet him
she and I were talking through the door, she was so bold to ask me to unlock and open the screen. I told her I couldn't that my dog would bite her LOL

Usually the only people who knock at our door are kids selling candy (or whatever the school is asking them to hawk) and college-aged students selling magazines. The biggest problem we have is that our computer room, where we are 99% of the time that we are home and awake (at least one of us) is right next to the door. We also usually have that window open, because it gets rather warm in there with 4 monitors and 2-3 computers running, so when someone knocks at the door they can see and/or hear us in there. I'll answer the door for the kids. The college aged ones are hit or miss (they travel in pairs, and Earl is always there).

The worst was when some religious people came knocking at the door in the middle of the day. Earl doesn't answer the door unless he's expecting a package (he doesn't answer the phone if he doesn't know the caller, either). But the window was open, and after a few times of knocking the jerks had the audacity to come right up to the window and say through the screen "I know you're in there. I can hear you typing."
Take a hint!

Have you considered answering the door with a large cleaver that has blood dripping from it.

Mom worked all the time and was hardly home but the religious folks caught her one time. She listened and noted what the person said and how they used scriptures. Then she countered with other scriptures and started asking questions of the person beyond what they expected! Mom spent many a Sunday and Wednesday even listening to her dad - a Baptist minister!! If the lady's friends hadn't intervened, Mom felt she almost converted her to being Baptist!

I probably would have replied to the guy "well I know you are out there, but you don't see me bothering you."

Unless its a package I won't.

The scariest thing that happened to me though.. I was probably in middle school having a lazy vacation at my dads place (he was at work). And some guy in a bright outfit comes walking across the yard!! I freaked out. I had no idea who it was. Then there he went again! Well back home we actually had to take the trash to the road side but at my dads they came and got your trash from the side of the house! I had no idea places did such things. I was hiding in the hallway
.

We used to have a problem in an upstairs apartment I lived in in NH. A lot of times those old homes are converted to apartments and you have to go up an inside stairwell to knock on the door. Well the stairwell was a part of the apartment. Soo many times we would get pizza delivery/package guys open the door, come right up the stairs, and stare in disbelief at my mom and I sitting on the couch staring back at him. It would crack us up after they leave! Hehehe.
