I set up an appt to take my prego cat(Chloe) to vet today, to see how far along she is! I really am anxious for her kittys and wanna be ready when shes due, so I feel that this is a good thing to do!
Has anyone else ever taken their cat or dog to have a sonogram?? And if so, how did it go? TIA!

Nope, and unless there is a problem (or you think there may be) IMO its totally unnecessary. Cats will have them in 63-68 days after mating. If you know when they mated, you know approximately when they will be due.

And as the time gets closer, when you can get a few drops of milk from the nipples, they usually have them within 48 hrs.

I also won't do it. My girl gets easily stressed in the car. However, I can't help but wonder at how many kittens are in her belly! I know how exciting that would be to know generally how many to expect.

I take my Persian queen's to the vet to see if they are breech & how many to expect so that i'm not wondering is this kitten it or if there are still more. Which ultrasound isn't 100% But you still have an idea. It is very neat seeing them on ultrasound as well.

Kind of curious. Are breech births more dangerous for persians? I know usually they aren't a big deal as they happen often. But curious about if the head causes difficulties.

Yes,they are a bit more difficult in Persians since the skulls are shaped differently. The last litter I had all 4 kittens were breech & my queen took 1 1/2 hours to push the 1st out. It is very common for breech positions & probably uneventful as well for other breeds. I have a habit for posting specifically about the Persian breed, without thinking about others..lol as I'm a member to mostly Persian Forums.

I did it out of curiousity....not that I was trying to be mean
I had a dream she had 3 kittens, lol, so I had to see if I was close and I think I am
The vet said to expect at least 4, and shes not a very big cat, so I dont think she will have many. He also said shes probly at least 2 weeks off before delivery~but I am getting so excited!
Been so long since I had baby kittys....

I don't think we were saying you were mean or anything, just that we felt it was unnecessary to do a sonogram out of curiouity. IMO it was a waste of money. If your cat was in labor and was in danger, then you take them - otherwise wait it out.

For the most part, I usually guessed how many my rex queens were carrying based on how many I could "feel"/"see". Was off maybe 1 or 2 kittens.

Hope she doesn't have any problems.

Hehe your like me. I'm really excited too. I had a dream she had 4 and then to our surprise she had a 5th (in the dream). At first I thought she had at least 3 but I'm starting to think she has more. I'll know in another month but in the meantime I can't help but keep on guessing.

My current foster kitty Sarabi was x-rayed and ultrasounded. They said she would have 4 kittens in 1-2 weeks. She had 6 kittens 4 days later! LOL! So don't expect too much detail!

I would love to see an ultrasound, too. I hope the vet that did hers doesn't charge the rescue for it, since it was so inaccurate. And they really have to budget their money to cover so many other things!

Best of luck with your babies. Maybe you can post the ultrasound pics so we can see what they look like?
