My cats were wrestling the other day and it must've gotten a little out of hand because one of them ended up with an ugly scratch between his eyes. I've been applying neosporin daily and not sure if I can treat it with anything else. It's in a position where he can't lick anything off it, but also too close to his eyes to wash it with soap and water. It makes my sweet little boy look like a beat up tomcat. Anyone else have experience with cleaning cat scratches?

What I do when my cats have nasty scratches (but not deep enough to warrant a vet visit) I dab them with wet cotton (not soaking) of hydrogen peroxide to clean before putting the antibiotic cream. They heal in a couple of days at the most.

It is not recommended to use hydrogen peroxide (it burns the tissue), but if you do please dilute it greatly before using.

hmmm...I'm a little wary of using the hydrogen peroxide as it's so close to his eyes and might irritate them or I might actually get some in them. The antibiotic cream sounds like it would be worth trying. What is it called?

I think the neosporin you are using is probably okay, but you can buy triple antibiotic ointment at the store- it comes in generic at any drug store. It basically comes in a tube and looks like vaseline. Or you can buy an ointment for pets. When Rocky was younger he got a nice scratch or bite in his neck from Zakk- he must of pushed zakk a little too far. I bought a product called septi-clens at either petsmart or petco. I think it's pretty much the same thing as the human stuff-not sure though.
If the scratch looks worse or doesn't get better I would bring him in to be sure. Be careful cleaning anything with hydroperoxide that close to his eyes.
