My cat was spayed several months ago and, though she isn't fat, her lower belly where the sutures were made appear flabby. Just the lower part of her belly droops and is noticeable when she runs or lays down. It concerns me, is this normal? Someone (who has no real knowlege) told me a poochy belly like this could be an onset of something..?..and to watch for fluid, etc., so I'm paranoid. She seems fine and some may even say fat, but it appears different than being fat. Am I just being too paranoid?

She's about ten months old now and on another note, I plan on finding another vet b/c I'm not crazy about the one who I'm seeing now. Should I just find one now and take her or wait until her yearly check up?

It is called a "spay sway" nd a lot of cats get it. In fact, all my cats have it except 2 of them. As far as I know it is normal.

Rambo has the world's largest spay sway (i call it his dust ruffle!). On a skinny kitty it looks pretty funny!

I asked my vet about this when I took Hannah in last weekend. He said it's common, it's "just" fat, and the only thing to be concerned about is if you start feeling knots or lumps in that area. A prior vet recommended doing something like a breast self-exam on that area every month or so, just to know what's normal for your kitty.

Oh! One of my cats has those lumps. Just a couple of them. The vet said it is probably nothing, and don't worry unless I notice they are changing in size or shape or hardness. Then bring her back in to be looked at. Hers are just small and there I think two. She lives with my mom now and we have not noticed any change.

Jen, I don't think we're talking about the same thing here. This poster is talking about the fat sac and I believe you are talking about lumps. Lumps would definitely need to be checked by a vet whereas the spay sway would not.
