Congratulations on the new babies! I hope everything is OK with #5! And the rest of the litter too! I can't wait to see pictures of the lovely family! Mommy is gorgeous so these babies have got to be stunning too!

My friend went over and weighed everyone...#5 weighed 2.8 again. But then she made sure everyone got latched on, and after they nursed, #5 weighed 3.0. Probably not pounds, sorry, I'm pretty sure the scale weighs ounces! (It is a postal scale, with a nice large area to set the kitten where they don't fall off!)

Kitten # 6 is quite an agressive eater, and was doing well per the report. One baby only weighed 2.4 to start, so I will have to keep an eye on it. I'll try to post pics tonight!

And #5 is up to 3.2 ounces now! Little swirly tabby is only 2.6, but that must be the one that was 2.4 earlier, so s/he is eating and gaining a tiny bit.

If they are supposed to gain 0.8 to 1 ounce per day, they seem to be pretty well on track. I never had a scale before, and I am so glad to have it now! I KNOW for sure if they are gaining, and can intervene if necessary.

Sarabi is very protective, and she is a great Mom. I wonder how many kittens she already populated downtown Chicago with? Well, this is the end for her. After she raises these darlings, she can retire and be spayed!

Oh Becky, how exciting! You sure know your kitties! You knew exactly when she would have them. I haven't looked at the photos yet. But it sounds like they are doing great. Even #5. Here's hoping they continue to improve.

I'm off to look at pics!

Well, everyone has a number they can handle...and if they go beyond that no one kitty gets enough attention, care and love. I really just wanted one kitty, and now have 3. I just can't keep them all!

And trust me, when these babies are about 10-12 weeks old, I defy you to find anyone who wants all six. It would be like having 6 two year olds in one house. One is cute to look at, but six is insanity! LOL!

Now this Momma is growing on me real fast, though. She is so happy for any attention, and so protective of her kits. (Of course, life on the city streets probably taught her that!) She is a real darling. But again, do I want to make a potentially 20 year commitment to her?!? Or would she be happier in another home? The last foster Mom who I had for a long time was Sugartoes...I love that cat. If it was just me and her, she would have been perfect for me. But she had raised her litters, and wasn't interested in other kittens or really in other cats. My house wasn't best for her...and now she is adored by her new family, and she is the only cat.

And Kluchetta, I thought I had more time before the babies came. I just happen to be over 40, and overweight, and have had babies myself. So often I get up at night, and it was easy to go check on my girl since she had spotted the evening before! I got to see the first and fifth births, but missed the others!

I, um, know where you're coming from there!
I also know about the kittens. I was really quite relieved when we were able to rehome 7 of our 8 kittens at 10 - 12 weeks! Whew! 11 cats in the house was a lot!

One thing you can do to help the kitten is when they eat just hold the kitten there or hold the others off so they can't push her off and let her eat untill she falls asleep, then she wont have to be pulled away and supplemented, soon she will be strong enough to hold her own at mealtime. This is a little boost with less interfering?

Thanks for the advice. Once kitten #5 warmed up fully, I put it with the rest of the litter. Momma has been accepting it, and it is doing beautifully! I have a scale, so monitor their weights once or twice a day, and all are gaining and growing.

Check out the fur pics thread, I have posted a few threads of pics already!
