I already have 13 cats, one who has a lump from a vaccination and I'm praying that it will go away and not turn into cancer. Anyway, the picture of the cat I posted in this thread (http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79040) I believe is pregnant. We took her in our home because she appeared to be a stray and lived on our front step for a few months. Now, I think we are going to have more kittens in about a month. I just got all my males neutered so none of my females would have kittens, and now the stray we take in is pregnant, I think, I'm almost positive.

Under the cats, mostly.
Hi sweetie - I'm sorry, I tried posting here earlier and it seemd like everything crashed out on me. So I'll try again.

First off let me say I'm so proud of you for having taken your little stray in. She might be pregnant and that will be a lot of hard work, but it will more than likely be possible to find all the kittens new and loving homes when the time is right. I'm sure it's probably expensive too - and with 13 other cats to think about, that will be tough, but would it be possible to set up a budget to stick to if you are going to take her in and care for her? I'd love to offer better advice than that, but I'm afraid I'm not really the one to do that.

Second, your vaccinated cat, I'm sure will be just fine. Sprocket used to get a lump in his vaccine area as his body fought the virus - that's what a vaccine is. They inject a small and non-threatening dose of a virus into the cat so that they can build up a natural immunity to it. So I highly doubt taht will be something to worry about, though i'd suggest you just keep an eye on it in any case

Everything will work out fine, just you see
We'll all be here to offer a word or two.

what a wonderful person you are to take in this stray
I agree with LilleKat, I'm sure you'll have no problem finding homes for the kittens when the time comes
Thank you for welcoming her(and them
) into your heart and home.

My kitty has also had lumps after vaccinations. We had one removed and sent to a lab, it turned out non-cancerous. Some cats are just prone to reactions after their shots. If it does'nt go away or changes in any way, you can take your kitty in and have it looked at. My kitty has 2 vaccination lumps, and the vet said to keep an eye on them, make sure they don't grow, start bleeding or become hardened. Good luck with all your babies

Don't despair...you must be a wonderful person to take in all of those strays and I'm sure that if your kitty is pregnant you will find good homes for all of the kittens!

According to my husband... the zoo
I agree with what the other said. Hopefully everything will go fine and all of the kittens will find wonderful new homes. She is so lucky to have someone like you to care for her and her kittens.

Things will be looking up in no time

There is the possibility of spaying even if she is pregnant. Sometimes it just isn't possible to save them all, unfortunately. The vet care for 13 cats has to be pretty high already, so at least consider spaying her.

Best of luck to you at this tough time!

I've heard of spaying even when they are pregnant. But, to me that seems like abortion, and I just can't do that. It just isn't right. I would feel guilty knowing that I had kittens killed.

Thank you all for being so supportive. I am really worried about the lump from the vaccination because I had a bad feeling about getting her shots this time. All the other cats, I didn't have a bad feeling, only the one that now has the lump. I am still praying it will be o.k.

It definitely is a type of abortion to spay a preggers kitty. I foster for an agency that helps by sustaining pregnancies in such kitties. However, I do think it is a viable option, especially if it is an early pregnancy.

Otherwise, just do your best to raise these kittens! Hopefully, they will all be healthy, and all will go smoothly.

Are there any rescues near you? My first foster kitty (Festus' Mom) was a preggers girl I found at work. When I listed her in the paper as a found kitty, the rescue called me and offered to pay for the vet bills if I would foster her for them. So I ended up keeping her at my house to have the kittens, and then they helped me adopt her out and the babies. (I did not want to keep Festie's Mom. With my agency, you can keep whatever cats or kittens you want!)

Maybe if you explained to the rescue that you were just trying to take in this cat to keep it from being homeless, and that you have done so much to be sure you don't end up with more kittens, they would be willing to help. Maybe you could keep this one kitty as a foster. Then when the kittens are old enough, they will help you adopt them out. My agency sells kittens for $100, and they are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. That is the main reason I affiliated with them. I liked the idea that all "my" babies would be spayed and neutered for certain.

And if you get the itch for kittens in the future, you can always get another preggers foster!

Thank you Beckiboo, for giving me some ideas. I don't think there is a foster/rescue agency here. I will call the humane society and talk to them. They have helped me out by giving me spay and neuter certificates to receive a discount on them. I remember someone a few years ago was fostering a kitten, so maybe there is something here.
