My dad's little Pomeranian/Shelty mix Max got attacked by another dog yesterday afternoon. Max is about the size of a large cat. This dog who lives on the next farm over got a hair up his behind and just savaged the poor little guy. Max had a huge hole ripped in his chest, and some bone taken. Amazingly enough, he survived the 45 minute drive to the nearest emergency vet clinic and is stable. He's a really tough little dog.
Please send out healing vibes for the little guy. He's a sweety, and if he doesn't make it my horse and I will be out our favorite trail companion, and my dad will be out one of his best buddies.

Here he is in the background with one of my dad's small cats, just to give you an idea of his size.

Did the owner of the other dog offer to do anything like help with the vet bills. That is the least he could do.

I hope everything turns out ok. I don't like it when irresposible owners just let there dogs loose to go where ever they want.

Poor Max! Sending healing vibes to him {{{}}} and
to your family.
That's a nasty situation. did it happen on your dad's property or the neighbours? Either way, I agree that this guy should be taking responsibility for this and helping with the vet bills.

Well, the vibes seem to be working, because Max is in stable condition.
Since he's survived the first couple of days, I imagine his chances are good.

The attack happened in my dad's hay field. I doubt he'll ask the other dog's owner for any help with the vet bills. I get the feeling the guy doesn't have the money to spare, and besides, my dad's got the money to cover the vet costs.
But the guy's dog is dead if it shows up on my dad's property again...we can't have a dog like that around horses, kitties, cattle and chickens.

Glad to hear he's stable. The neighbour better keep his dog under control, for everyone's best interests.

Max is still doing fine. He is home from the hospital now, and running around. My dad is trying to keep him from running and moving about too much, but with Max, that's impossible. He's a high-energy little fellow. It looks like he is going to make a full revocery.

My dad has decided to ask the owner of the other dog to either pay the vet bill or get rid of his dog (give it away or put it down). I hate that the guy is going to have to part with his dog, but he shouldn't have allowed it to get like that in the first place. He's obviously not a responsible owner, and now the poor dog is going to pay the price for it.

I'm sure beeing at home has lifted his spirits, and now the healing process can fully begin.
