Hello

I just wanted to start a new topic based on my observations lol not sure if anyone else feels this way. But do you find that LONG haired cats are much more calmer placid and not as great hunters as short haired? (IM ONLY Talking aboug moogyies aka domestic short/long hairs) ALso all the long hairs ive seen in the house tended to be much more DELicate and sensative! I had a HUGE black long haired male and the other cats would try to play with him and he would ALWAYS end up getting hurt dispite being almost twice the size of the other cats! he would always cry and i would tell the other cats to knock it off. Ive seen this delicate/sensativeness in a few other long hairs as well. What you guys think?

another thing i noticed about long haired cats is they are not able to fend off dogs as well as short haired because of their passive natures

Penny - long hair, aggressive (dominant - at a mere 8 pounds she
totally demoralized a semi-feral 20 lb Tom in 30 seconds flat!),
natural born huntress, proud of it.

Tigger - short hair, friendly to a fault, couldn't hunt if her life
depended on it, good-humored and natural comedienne.

Sarah - long hair, paranoid, submissive to self-detriment, afraid
to leave her room, doubt "hunting" was in her conceptual
vocabulary.

Go figure.

2 long haired cats, 5 shorthaired cats.... My shorthaired cats do not bond as well with the long hairs, with 1 exception and that is my youngest abyssinian adopted a stray long haired kitten, when I brought him in, Frankie fell in love with another kitty to play with........... I think George(long haired kitty stray) thinks he is abyssinian now.....He even trills like a abby.. For the most part, the short haired cats rule this house.....

Well three of my shorthaired cats could beat the crap out of any passing cat at any time and they are the first out of my bunch to do it. Also great hunters.

With the other two short haired cats, they are scared babies especially the one who is really jumpy at every little thing. But they sure do attack their toys to death. I don't think the one could survive as a hnuter in the wild and the other definately could not.

My long haired cats (himalayans and ragamuffin) are just big lazy mooshes who were delicate and docile and sweet to every other cat, never picked fights. Our one himmie is scared to death of everything and everyone.

My medium haired cats what now are at my moms house are great hunters and players and very outgoing and feisty and sweet at the same time. They are also calicos.

So I guess for my cats, yes that is sort of true.
But I really think it all depends on the personality of each individual cat and how they are raised and treated and their history and everything.

No, Penny was a tabby. Tigger, the non-hunter, comedienne,
was the tortie. Go figure.

No pictures. She was long before we had digital cameras.

I miss her dreadfully. She was my first, the the first time I
learned first-hand how deeply humans and animals can bond.

My medium-haired girl is an excellent huntress and very laid back.

my longhaired kitties are more loving than any short hair ive ever owned. they only fight with each other, they ignore dogs...chloe is more docile but a more vicious hunter. patches is more aggressive but when hunting, she doesnt play with her prey, she just attacks it; whereas chloe likes to torture the mousies lol
they are both maine coons; chloe is a tabby, patches is a calico.
