I got a phone call late last night from a friend of mine that has a Himalayan cat. She said it couldn't move, like it was paralyzed and was panting really heavily like it was having a hard time breathing. Unfortunatly she called me back a half hour later and her precious kitty had died. This all happened so quickly. I looked in my first aid for cats book and the only thing I could find was maybe that it was a spider bite or something similar. Does anyone have any idea what could have killed this kitty so quickly. Could it have been a stroke or heart attack? She said it had thrown up once the day before but she didn't think much of it, thought maybe it was a furball. I feel so sorry for her so I thought I would write and ask if anyone knows anything about it. Is this something that is common with pure bread cats. I only have domestics and wouldn't trade them for anything. I would appreciate any ideas anyone has. Thanks for your help.

I"m so sorry for the sudden death of your friend's himi

The only way to know for sure what caused it would to do an autopsy. Sounds like it could have been a stroke and/or heart attack. Possible that there was a genetic history of cardiomyophathy in the lines. Siamese and orientals do have that in lines and because the pointed gene came from siamese and incorporated into persians to produce the pointed himalayans, there might have been something in the background.

If its not too late, she might want to do an autopsy.
