I just came from interviewing the pastor of a local church for an article I'm working on. Turns out he has two cats (Oscar & Felix - yes, from the Odd Couple). We were sitting at the dining room table talking and Felix, the VERY friendly one, jumped up on the chair next to mine. He started pawing at the tablecloth, so I started scratching him on the chin. He was purring like crazy. So, I'm trying to pet him with one hand and take notes with the other. Just a little awkward. The next thing I know, Felix decides he would be much more comfortable on my lap. So of course, I had to make a big fuss over him and just ignore the pastor - telling him how handsome and sweet he is (the cat, not the pastor!)

As a result, we got completely distracted from the interview and ended up talking about our cats instead - a much more interested topic anyway!

But I am sure you got on the pastor's good side and eventually got a better interview for it! At least the pastor didn't mistake your comments being for him!

I laughed when I read that part!

What a good way to be distracted though, great topic!

That used to happen to me sometimes when I had my old job with the elderly. I would make home visits and the cats would come out of the woodwork to say hi. One lady used to make me come and say hi to her cat. She also got in trouble b/c she used her medical cabs to take her cat to the vet. I had another lady who had way too many litter boxes though, and she would make me sit in the kitchen with a stinky box right under my nose. Another lady had about 500 clocks in her house (i am not exaggerating!) and tons of knick knacks- her cat never disturbed a thing! some of the cats were just too cute- though one did try to take a bite out of my hand!
