Ok,

I have a little lynx point siamese cat that I adopted from a rescue group. My wife claims that she was searching the internet under "lynx point siamese" and came across a site for association in the UK where all you have to do is send in a picture of your cat and if its a Lynx Point they will register it. No papers from a breeder.

This seems very strange from what I thought was the norm of no papers = no registration. Of she cannot remember where the site was.

Has anyone ever come across this?

Thanks

I'm sure you can do it, but WHY? Anyone can make up an association and "register" a cat - but unless its a major association, you're just throwing away your money (unless they "register" for free).

Its not like you'd have a purebred registered/showable cat or anything. It would just be a piece of paper - that's all.

Sounds like nonsense. Credible registries require proof of lineage. A picture is not worth a thousand words in this case.
Don't waste your money. The only legitiment registries are TICA, ACFA, UFO and CFA. Might be a few others, but these are the majors.

Some folks just like that fancy little piece of paper they can stick on the wall. It is just a fun thing, like the drivers lisences I got for my gang of critters! I cannot use them for anything, but is sure is an ice breaker!

I have been told the AKC a dog association will register ( limited) without papers but never a credible cat association

AKC will. I haven't registed my lab yet. But the restrictions are:

1. Several photos of dog - front, side
2. Dog has to be neutered or spayed (with vet proof)
3. Reason why you think its a purebred.
4. Only competition in AKC for obedience or agility - not for conformation showing.

Those are not the requiements to get into the AKC. I breed Labs and to register you only need the litter registration papers from the breeders.
I never sent in pics or an explination of my practices.

I think what is being said is if you do not have registration papers from the breeder, AKC will do a limited registration on them, and those are the reqirements to do so.

I haven't heard of any cat associations doing this, so i'm not sure about it.

That is true - if you don't have the registration papers - you are allowed "limited registration" - I already looked into it. I bred cats, so I am aware of what registration is for either dogs or cats.

We adopted our lab from a rescue group, so she doesn't have "papers". If I wanted to show her in agility that is what I had to do with AKC.
