I wasn't sure where to post this, but I knew I had to share it somewhere other than my blog, with people who might appreciate it. So I'm breaking my bad lurking habit....

I fell down the stairs tonight [bad ankle - it likes to fold on me a lot]. I'm okay, just a puffy and painful ankle and a layer of fleece from my PJ bottoms where some skin on my knee should be.

When it happened, though, the first thing I heard wasn't my significant other waking up, but Zombi -- my cat. She got up, came down the stairs making these gurgling, chirpy noises, went straight for my head and started headbutting me. Then she started licking my face, but in that strange sort of gentle not-rough part of the tongue way.

Then she curled up around my head and put the top of her head against mine.

She's a good cat.

I'm glad you're not hurt too badly. My babies are very protective of me like that too.
I wish you a speedy recovery!

Under the cats, mostly.

That is such a sweet story!

It's amazing how much quicker our animals respond to us than our S/Os.

I'm pretty sure the S/O will sleep through just about anything. Then again, so will I, so we're even.

I didn't really expect Zombi to react that way, though. I hear those sorts of stories all the time about the stereotypical 'man's best friend' -- lassie stories, y'know? But the only time I've ever heard of a cat rescuing its owner was when one of my cousins had a cat that woke them up and saved them from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Now I've got my own story.

Also: I was up and around today. Actually did some shopping [CompUSA, B&N, Sam's Club]. I just used the cane we keep around the house 'just in case', the ankle brace, a bunch of gauze wrapping, and one of my wrist braces. Putting weight on my ankle is a little...not good, and bending my other knee is awful, too, but I'm used to the ankle by now [old military injury], and I'm still young enough that scrapes aren't unfamiliar -- at least there wasn't any gravel involved. On top of all that, I suffer from frequent migraines, so...really used to pain. I can deal with it, I just don't like to if I don't have to.

The headache thing is part of why I got Zombi, and I got really lucky there. She's a great comfort there. At the very least, she'll curl up on a pillow above me in bed when I'm feeling lousy, and she'll hum.

Before her, I'd never heard a cat do anything like that. I knew cats could purr, meow, and even gurgle [I thought that was rare, though], but chirps and humming?

Awww sounds like you have a really special cat there. That's really touching how she comforts you when you're in pain.
I think mine would be too busy trying to take advantage of the situation!

Zombi is clearly a sweetie, and sensitive to her human's needs. It's so special when they just appear at the right moment to look after us.

Aw, she sounds VERY sweet. We had a kitty like that we used to call our Therapy Cat. She always knew when someone was sick.

BTW, where are you in Colorado? We're having a Colo meet-up in April, hope you can make it!
