Hi,

I saw this kitten who seemed to be stuck in some kind of glue and had leaves and other dirt stuck on him. I checked with my neighbours and they tell me that he fell on some kind of sticky rat poison.

I tried cleaning him with warm water and oil.. but it didn't do much. Would it be a good idea to use petrol or paint thinner for this?

Any help appreciated!

thanks

crisscross...I don't know...is there a vet office that you can contact about this?

Thanks for caring for this little one.

Thanks for the reply Katie, the vet office weren't of much help, i applied generous amounts of coconut oil and then wiped it with a cloth and that seems to have helped a lot, he is quite stressed though. Will keep you posted

Have washed many a stray/feral that were found coated in oil, dirt, and God only knows what...have used Dawn (blue) dishwashing liquid. I've found the Dawn to be very mild on their skin yet tough on the dirt & oil.

Good luck with the little one and thanks for helping.

I agree - Dawn dishsoap is definitely good.

Paint thinner would be awful! Do not put anything on him that could cause more harm if he licks it off!

Keep us posted, and post a pic if you can! What a lucky little guy.

I used Dove shampoo (neutral PH) on Persil when I found her covered in motor oil. I do hope you get all the rat poison off before he ingests it as it would kill him. I do agree he needs a vet quickly to be sure.

Chances are because you are in India, you don't have access to the same products we do. I would look for lard to put on the kitten, cover the spots and then wipe off with a warm towel after about 5 minutes. Then give the kitten a warm bath in a safe liquid soap to remove the rest of the lard. Also be sure to find a vet that can run some blood work to see if this little one got poisoned from licking off the toxic substance.

Look for drooling, listlessness, lack of appetitie, swaying back and forth and vomiting diarrhea. Thank you for caring for this little one. There is also a new magazine in your country Kats & Kittens. If you can locate a copy there might be a vet listed inside that will help you. Best of luck~

Hi, Thanks all for your replies, and apologies for not updating this earlier.
I did manage to get most of the poison off him, but he is extremely weak and eats very little the vet doesn't seem to know much about this.
I plan to give him Cyproheptadine tomorrow and see if that helps.. will keep you all updated. thanks once again
